Which aftershave do you use?
Discussion
Chaps,
What's the deal regarding quality of different batches of Creed? Particularly Aventus.
I'm thinking of buying a bottle, either Aventus or Green Irish Tweed. I've only ever had these as decants from the usual suspects previously mentioned in the thread. I swear each time I've bought Aventus it smelled like a completely different beast. The first time: WOW, and the last I bought it: it smelled of mold.
Do the different batches smell so different? I don't want to splash out about £300 on a bottle of disappointment. I suppose the answer is to buy from an actual shop. But christ, I hate shopping.

Off topic for a tad, well, off the fragrances usually discussed on here. Think the last time I commented on here was ages (years) ago, when 'Lidl' 'aftershaves' were discussed. I'm a 'tight sod' and I mean 'tight' in that I only look for bargains and I've had many over the years, not just 'aftershaves'.
Why am I posting today?
I popped into my local 'Superdrug' this morning for some cough sweets, 'lockets' (49p, nobody does them at that price), then into Waitrose for my 'free' 3 quid coffee, 'free' newspaper etc. Didn't buy anything. Told you I'm tight!
Afterwards I decided to walk back through Superdrug, glad I did. I sprayed a bit of 'Hugo Boss' on my wrists, well, you do don't you? Then walked round the men's 'aftershaves' - glad I did. Occasionally, there are decent offers...
hang on, are my eyes deceiving me?
They seem to sell a fair amount of 'Bespoke' 100ml fragrances (all smell nice but none last) and seemingly a fair amount of this 'Artiscent' EDP, £11.99 50ml bottles. I'd sprayed it on my wrists before and to be fair you could still whiff it hours later.
'Sale' - 50p a bottle.
I'm at the counter in secs with one pack.
'Is this really 50p?'
'Yep', says lovely lady, 'won't be there long, that's some reduction isn't it?'
Dash back and grab the others as I was now late for an appointment.
Pleased though, both smell nice. £47.96 worth for a measly couple quid, can't be bad.
Go online and you'll be disappointed, it's £11.99 a bottle. LOL

Current Aventus is widely acknowledged as being pretty poor. I have a 2017 bottle which is about the last time it smelled 'right', I've been buying Parfums Vintage Emperor Extrait which smells near-as-dammit identlcal to my 2017 Aventus but for about half the price. I've sent samples to several PHers to test against a sample of my real one and I think every time the verdict was positive. I have no affiliation with them either. What's the deal regarding quality of different batches of Creed? Particularly Aventus.

Hadn’t really considered a clone. But looking on the web it has great reviews. Can you get a sample anywhere? Will brace myself and get amongst the Christmas hordes to try current Aventus in a department store too.
Send me your address details and I'll send you a couple of ml of both Emperor Extrait and my 2017 Aventus for comparison.Let me know here when you've done it as historically PH hasn't always sent me emails when someone messages me.

Also, whilst I’m here. Any love for the Patfumes De Marly? Like the description of Kalan particularly but it has some terrible reviews. Any others to recommend? Where can one smell them in the real world?
Layton is the one that gets the hype but I've also tried Sedley, Carlisle, Herod and Pegasus and they're all good. Unfortunately, their price point puts them up against some strong competition from Creed, Tom Ford Private Blends, Chanel Les Exclusifs, Roja, Frederic Malle etc.
Personally, I'd stick to splits for PdM.

I like Herod a lot. Percival isn't bad but Herod is a favourite of mine. nuyorican said:

Tom does PdM splits: https://tomsdecants.bigcartel.com/category/parfums... He's also provided a 5% code for PHers - use 'PISTON'. His splits are all legit, quite a few of us on here buy from him.Ah, didn't know Tom did anything other than Creed. Will place an order. Ordered a few times previously.
Last sample set I got (not Tom) was Penhaligons. I know it's all subjective but there wasn't one I liked. All perfectly pleasant, but nothing I'd like to wear. Am I missing anything?
