One thing I've noticed is "the youth" saying "LOL" as a word, instead of actually laughing out loud. It makes me feel like a curmudgeon but really, couldn't they just fking laugh?
I heard some actually say "hashtagfunny".A 'friend' of mine used to stick a LOL at the end of every sentence to disguise the fact that he had no personality.
So, a text would read like this;
"You coming out?"
"Yeah I just need to go to the shops first LOL"
"We're meeting at 3pm"
"OK LOL"
Sometimes he wouldn't even capitalise the LOL. He'd type 'lol' all lower case. I fking hated him.

But you started a sentence halfway through? So, a text would read like this;

Just as annoying, LOL.

It's used to infer humour in text rather than literally meaning Laugh Out Loud these days.
"You're a fking idiot" and "You're a fking idiot, lol" represent an offensive insult and a ribbing you give your mate for mucking something up.
It's the same as smilies / emoticons, they are a way of inferring an emotion into what you're saying.

A mate of mine adds lol to the end of almost every line of every text. I could excuse it if he was a teen but he's forty fking one. Should know better!
