I'm going to stick my neck out and suggest Barry.
Christ you could buy a house there for the price of a new Ford Ka.
You can buy a house in Sandbanks for the price of a car, if you like really expensive cars!Christ you could buy a house there for the price of a new Ford Ka.
( why do I suspect your the type who will now go and spend ages searching rightmove to show that within 1 mile of Barry centre you can't actually get a car for under £6999. )

Many years ago I used to go on family holidays to Spain and suchlike. We were a middle class family and it was noticeable that we were a lot better off than the locals.
Nowadays things have changed, wherever I go I don't feel very well off at all.
I don't mean in places like Bangladesh or Rwanda, what i mean is where can i go where i can live a comparable life to here in the UK but on a significantly lower salary.
As an example, 20 years ago i first went to Florida, meals out were cheap, accomodation was cheap, clothes were cheap and that isn't the case now.
Where do I need to go?
Nowhere is the answer. Nowadays things have changed, wherever I go I don't feel very well off at all.

The reason it was noticeable that you were a lot better off than the locals, was because you were earning Sterling. By "significantly lower salary" you mean the same salary as the locals, in which case you're be as poor/rich as them.
For example, when you first went to Florida, meals out were cheap, accomodation was cheap, clothes were cheap.....to YOU. Because you were no doubt earning more than the locals and had a favourable exchange rate too.
You need to look at it the other way; not where is cheaper but where can I earn more. Where can I go where my skills are more in demand than the UK and therefore I will earn a higher wage, relative to local living costs.
Unless you are retiring. Then decide what your priorities are. Some places have very cheap houses but that may prove to be a bad place to keep your money. Other's have very cheap daily living costs but you may find that utilities and cars are very expensive.

big mac index, not a perfect measure but anywhere below the uk your money should go further http://www.statista.com/statistics/274326/big-mac-...
Cambodia don't have McDonalds so isn't on the list! They have their first Burger King though.

Thanks all.
South Africa looks a good shout.
I wasn't thinking particularly for a holiday, more a place to live and work.
Somewhere that a decent salary went a lot further than here and yes, I agree there are definitely towns in the UK where that's the case too.
Before you pack your bags for South Africa (and the contents of which are stolen when you get there), look at other statistics; 18,000 murders and 500,000 incidents of rape a year.South Africa looks a good shout.

Then consider the cost of living, if you are earning the rand, has been rising rather steeply over the past few years, given the plummeting exchange rate.

Really need your head testing if you think its cheap there.
14 years there gives me a good understanding of the place.
Plus, it really is as dangerous and risky as other posters have said.
It is beautiful in places, but at a cost.
Really shouldnt be on many peoples list to live there.

I was working in South Africa last year and was surprised by the price of food, such as getting a large fillet steak in a restaurant for the equivalent of £7.
Anyway, I made a joke post on facebook saying "I can't believe there are all these news items about starving children in Africa when a KFC bargain bucket is only £3". It didn't go down too well so I deleted it before it made the "Facebook Fails" thread.

I rent an apartment here http://www.thebeacon.com.ph/ for 20,000php a month so 20000 Philippine Peso equals
289.727 British Pounds. On the PH floor no less.
I lived in Bangkok for 5 years prior and would say that Bangkok is cheaper to live accommodation wise.
