I had my head shot off by a sniper once.

Took a couple of aspirin and was back at work the next day.
Hilarious

Hope you never injure yourself badly buddy
Wow, it's almost the opposite of what you said to Emsman. You're learning.

Have you never heard of public transport?
Yes, but like most decent folk, would prefer not to use it- It involves an hours journey, and again, not all that practical with a sling AND a laptop bag

2 days in the last 10 years.

I have to be on the verge of death to not go into work... On those 2 days I was unable to move due to a really nasty flu.

You can manage to drive without a thumb. I know a guy who has a thumb and two fingers missing from one hand. He doesn't have any modifications to his car and manages to control it just fine.

Was thinking the same. To avoid work because of travel arrangements is frankly ridiculous. You have a job, and therefore a responsibility to attend, providing you don't want to end up without one.

You're not that unwell that you're unable to use public transport. Seriously, keep finding things to mock. A new week, another nwe reason to love this place.

Oh, and Luftwaffe. You're fired.

Broken hand.

Spent half a morning in A&E.

Took a couple of ibuprofen (which I accept now was a bit ghey)

Then came to work. -Its not as if I could go home and do to myself what I normally do to myself when I'm ill.

Apart from occasional weeks off when the slipped disk in my back has slipped again, which it hasn't done for a few years now, I think its about 2 days over the last 3 years.

I've lost days through having no internet (and yes that does matter as my job is carried out on an internet platform), but apart from those couple of days, I have managed to keep working, even if I have had to do it with a bucket next to me (I had gastritis)

About a year- give or take a few days.

After the initial period in hospital, morphined up to the eyeballs, a long period of bed rest back at home, three trips a week to stoke mandeville for various injections, and the re-dressing of the various areas affected- head/face/arms/chest/leg/ear/hand/back.
After this came the eyeball incident- removed/cleaned/blood vessels repaired.
various tests and procedures to ascertain how severe the damage was to my lungs- having been on fire from waist to about 2 feet above my head, I was engulfed by the flames, and as a result, inhaled some quite warm air, which burnt my throat, and the lining of my lungs. After the skin inside my mouth had effectively fallen off, I had a couple of minor dental procedures. I will never taste anything again.
After this was the damage to my nose- in a similar way to my lungs, flames had damaged my nose, so I still can't smell anything.
Then came the issues with my ear- again, the flames effectively destroyed my earlobe and inner ear- this led to sone quite disturbing issues with my balance- being short of breathe, and prone to sickening dizzy spells, I spent quite sone time randomly falling over/blacking out.
After this was really rehabilitation- learning to live with it. One of the most dire things here was learning of the death of a young girl- admitted just after me, who had eventually succumbed to her injuries after a fair few months. I spent a great deal of time with her in hospital, and always went to visit her when I was back in. Alas, being so young, she was simply overcome with the treatments and infections, and she passed away. Other than that, and seeing mrs emsman 3 days after the accident when it dawned on me that the explosion had given her flash burns straight across her face and hands. The realization that circumstances could gave been far worse hit home very hard. Luckily, she fully recovered in a matter if weeks, but it still keeps me awake at night, thinking about other outcomes.
Other than that, all us well. I still have no feeling in my right hand, I struggle with breathing, and sometimes just get the most terrible pain in my chest that floors me for a couple of days. My voice is also somewhat different, due to the burns in my throat. I still have issues with my sight- especially at dusk, am prone to dizzy spells, although far less pronounced than they once were.
All in all, I'm very lucky- 3rd degree burns to 60% of my arm, chest and face.
Ironically, had the burns gone less than 1mm deeper, it would have destroyed the nerves, so it wouldn't have hurt at all- that would have been a small mercy- the pain when the nurse removed the dead skin with a gauze was unbearable- so much so I passed out on various occasions.
The only things that saved my life, in no real order, was the fact I was wearing a linen shirt- had it have been nylon, it would have burnt onto me, and been far more difficult to put out- and that, rather than flailing around, I had a moment of utter clarity, pulled off the remains of my shirt, then effectively put out my face with my hands.

I will carry the words of the dr with me to my deathbed though-

'result!!!! Hey, Stuart, your left thumb is ok- you can carry a laptop bag!'

Whats the most you have ever had, and were they intentional or, you know, not quite legitimate?

Im on day 6 so far, as i cant drive with my injury.
I burnt my thumb, and now its blistered and gone septic, so im on a really strong dose of penicillin to cure it. The doctor reckons its going to be at least another three days though frown

So, whats the longest for you?
I had an ingrowing hair on the base of my spine, (basically my ass) had surgery to remove said hair. Doctors said 3 weeks off work (yeah right) after 4 days off work I went to work and fashioned a subtable seat to rest my backside. Not to mention having to go back to the hospital every night to have the gauze ripped out my ass AND I drove to work every day. Yes i AM a hero.

I hope your thumb gets better
