At my place of work we were all set for this. The fire alarm was going to sound briefly to mark the start and end of the 3 minutes.

The morons cocked it up.

The fire alarm sounded continuously for 3 minutes, and by the end of it we had all evacuated the site and there were nigh on 1000 of us maintaining a respectful silence in the car park.

At least the good intent was there, and the event was marked I suppose.

Actually now you come to mention it I think I posted the exact same story then as I have this time. Or was that the year before, or both.

They set the fire alarm briefly at 11 then again at 2 minutes past. Everyone was quiet. Apart from one girl who didn't twig it was 11 (certainly not out of disrespect) and tried to talk to one of her friends Then she got the message!

We had the fire alarm go off here as a reminder, not that it was needed...

Here on Guernsey, the whole island stopped at the sound of the Air Raid sirens going off.

It really is the most fear inspiring sound, even now in 'peace'
