Which aftershave do you use?
Discussion
The ones I ordered the other day turned up - aside from a nice large Aventus, it included:
Creed Original Santal
Amouage Ciel - Man
Amouage Jubilation XXV - Man
Also included as a free sample was Christian Dior - New Look 1947.
I really like the Creed Original Santal and will be ordering a bigger sample - as with most of the Creed fragrances, I can't really justify the cost of one large bottle but it's great to have a selection of samples which will, on rotation, last some time. I'll be ordering some Green Irish Tweed at the same time as that's really grown on me too. You can really smell the spicier notes in this (ginger, citrus, peppermint) with a woodier undertone. Very nice.
Amouage Ciel - Man is OK but nothing to write home about - it's too floral for me, I thought it might be more spicy than it is. I wouldn't choose to wear it (Sanj, I'll chuck this in with the others I'm sending you as it may be more your thing than it is mine).
Amouage Jubilation XXV - similarly to the Ciel, it's not really my thing. I think a mate of mine would like it so I'll pass it to him.
I'm not quite sure why Scent Samples included the Dior New Look 1947 - it's a women's fragrance and everything I've previously ordered from SS has been for men (with one unisex). I had a quick sniff from the sample bottle and personally think it smells pretty awful (especially as it's £200 for a 125ml bottle!). If anyone would like it, they're welcome to it - message me and I'll pop it in the post for free within the UK.
Following recommendations on here and some random clickery, I have the following incoming:
YSL M7 (Vintage)
Creed Himalaya
Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au thé Vert Extrême
Creed Royal Oud
Creed Erolfa
Boss Bottled - Oud
I'm not sure how I'll get on with the Bvlgari as it's a unisex fragrance and looking back at the samples I've had I clearly tend to favour more masculine scents. That said, the whole point of SS is to sample...!
I'll let you know what I think when they arrive.

Where's recommended online for buying genuine stuff? I'm hesitant to pick a random site as there's a lot of fakes out there...
Notino is good but don't believe the percentage discounts as the RRPs are messed up. The prices are still good though. Well, annoyingly, I've tried quite a few different samples recently of things that I thought I might like, plus recommendations, and I simply don't like them as much as my Aventus which is nearly empty.
Once you've decided you like Aventus it's so hard to change to anything else.
It just smells so good and It's easily the one that gets the most compliments of anything I've worn.
The staying power is another thing that's just crazy. I can open my wardrobe and get a big waft of it just off a suit jacket that I wore a couple of weeks ago. I opened a car earlier that I hadn't used for a few days and the first thing I smelled was Aventus as there was a hoody on the back seat from a week ago that must have caught some of the spray when I wore it.
Just a couple of light sprays will last all day/night and if it gets on any of your clothes they will still smell of it a week later.
Why is it always that the nice things in life are so expensive?

Sanj, don't panic when you see the envelope with the aftershaves inside, the post office lady insisted on putting a massive flammable sticker on the front when I answered what was in it!
Stupid really, as they arrived with me just fine without...
Haha OK thanks for the heads up 😂Stupid really, as they arrived with me just fine without...
After all the talk of Tobacco Vanille on this thread I went to go and buy some yesterday lunchtime. Sprayed some on myself and on a card in the shop and found it way too overpowering and left it. But then 30mins later once it'd settled i found it a lot nicer! 2 clients in the afternoon commented on it, positively may I add! and when i got home the girlfriend also showed her interest in it so I went back today and went for a 50ml bottle. I thought the price of it was a little OTT but you really have to wear it to appreciate it
Had plenty that I've liked, but since coming across Sartorial by Penhaligons, that's become my defacto smelly.
I do find aftershaves and perfumes pretty pricey these days. I used to be able to buy them for my mum on Mothers' Day with a bit of saved pocket money.
Would take me all year now!

I totally agree. My other half thought it was far too strong at first but after it had settled, she absolutely loved it. I already have a 50ml bottle of ombre leather 16 which is my personal favourite but I had a date night with the Mrs last month and used a small sample of the Tobacco Vanille for a change. She never stopped talking about how nice it was. She's now wanting to get me a 50ml bottle for my birthday. That's almost £300 for 2 smallish bottles of aftershave which is mighty. I also want to to buy a bottle of Aventus as my sample spray is almost out. My Spice bomb extreme which was my "special" scent is now relegated to my normal daily wearer and the other aftershaves I have such as John Varvatos, Givenchy Gentlemen Only extreme, etc. don't even get a look in. Expensive business smelling like a tart!I've said it before, but TF Tobacco Vanille is so very worth it! I bought it in 100ml variety, because I just knew I had to have it. I actually have 2 bottles of it, so have another 100ml ready for when my current one runs out. I wear it most days.
Agree 100% on the comments. When you first put it on, it's very strong, but it mellows. One criticism I've noted on websites like BaseNotes has been that the longer-lasting note is the vanilla rather than tobacco. I'd agree with that, but it doesn't bother me at all. Worth mentioning for anyone considering it.
It's easily still my favourite one to wear, but there are contenders! Notably Dior Homme Parfum.

Sartorial is a very, very addictive scent! Very old-school, and has a lot of charm - as long as you don't slap it on! Out of all of the fragrances I've had, this has been the longest lasting and strongest on my skin.I do find aftershaves and perfumes pretty pricey these days. For me, it's too sickly sweet when initially applied. I agree, certainly mellows during the day. My wife was surprised how much better I smelt when I got back from work compared to when I left in the morning!Agree 100% on the comments. When you first put it on, it's very strong, but it mellows. Yep, that's what I get, too - too sickly sweet. The first time I tried it I accidentally got some on my jumper - two days later it still smelt great (or better, even).Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
