Incredible footage, really. Excellent that all wheel tethers apparently did their job as well. I'm starting to worry about Alonso's health. He had that big Interlagos smash in 04?, that odd spell of losing consciousness in early testing last year and now another few smacks to the noggin. Concussions can't be ignored anymore.

As I said in the F1 thread, many engineers worked many years to get this lucky. Personally, I think the luck is in showing what a bad idea the "halo" would be. You'll never make the perfect crash-proof racing car, but when you work hard, it is amazing how "lucky" you get. Studying what went right and wrong in this incident will help future cars and drivers get luckier still.

For all my trust in engineering though, it didn't stop me going "wow" when I saw him crawl out of the wreckage and stand up.
