Can anyone tell me what has happened to my Barker Oxfords? If you look closely at the leather it is now rough and pockmarked where it used to be shiny and smooth.
Had them a year and they are worn about 6-7 times a month; never on consecutive days. They are always rubbed down after use and have shoe cream applied before they get put in their shoe trees for next time. I try not to wear them in the wet but have been caught out a couple of times with the english weather. The shoes are about due for their first re-soling but looking at the state of them I might not bother.
Very disappointed with the quality of the leather; my old Army boots would still polish up well after 8 years of use and abuse.
Shouldn't really do that on a Barker though, although one of the factories they used for a while are known to have that happen. Is it a shoe that was made in India?

found a 30% voucher for Jones Bootmakers, SWMBOs gonna kill me alongside all my Trickers, Barkers and other Loakes
Are they Barkers? If so I bought the same from Jones using the same voucher but returned them today for a smaller size as they come up pretty big.Edited by sunil4 on Tuesday 10th November 15:41

Is there any way to stop or minimise shoes creasing across the front? Other than not bending toes when you walk.
Leather creases. Even on very high quality shoes.http://www.theshoesnobblog.com/2015/10/remember-le...
You can minimise the depth and amount of creasing by using shoe trees though.

Or buy them with no corrected hi shine layer in calf or something.
They will crease but you will hardly notice the creases.
The shoes in the link are very expensive made-to-measure shoes. I don't know exactly how much they would cost, but similar quality shoes from a famous bespoke maker in London will set you back £4200 for a basic plain oxford. They will crease but you will hardly notice the creases.
They are not corrected grain leather. Those creases are on fine calf leather.

Hey? I was talking about his Barkers. They are not corrected grain leather. Those creases are on fine calf leather.
Mine you, a few Churches have been corrected leather recently. Not good for a brand like that imho.
