Nice!

What's the deal with Vass? Where are they made and roughly how much £/pair?

They're from Budapest. They're fully handmade (no Goodyear welting, hand welted, hand everything). I flew over there to get them, but you can buy them off ascot_shoes on eBay. I don't think he can get MTO or bespoke and he adds a markup.
The shell cordovan is pricier at around £450 (but the colour is sensational), the calf more like £350 depending on what you spec.

Very, very nice Mousem40. I've been looking into getting something in cordovan, interesting stuff. Here's a vid of how Horween prepare their shell, if any ones interested Horween shell cordovan Ignore the guy in the shoe shop, it doesn't turn into a porno flick. Nice hi-fi btw!

Great video. It really is a special leather. I had no intention of buying Shell but when you see it in the flesh it blows you away with its depth of colour and sheen which changes in the light like 'Trick' car paint. (The pictures above capture this well)

Lol good eyes! Unfortunately the valves are too weak to power my magneplanners but they do sound good smile

The sole on the tan pair looks quite thick. Spoils the look of the shoe to my eye.

Those top ones look like something the NHS would give you to correct bad posture caused by having one leg longer than the other.

Haha those are straight off the Milan catwalk! smile

Yes the sole is doubled up on the brown shoes (doubled then tapered to single) as I use those shoes much more so wanted a thicker sole to take the wear and that could more easily be replaced. I have heard that criticism before but unless you look at the shoe sideways you'll never see it.

Thank you
A couple of decent shoe brushes too. Pediwear are helpful in this regard, as is Richard at theshoehealer.

Also don't wear the same pair every day, alternate so no one pair is worn two days in a row.

Cheers

Are they Barkers? If so I bought the same from Jones using the same voucher but returned them today for a smaller size as they come up pretty big.
No mate, these are loake chesters in a f fitting. I have loakes, barkers and trickers in the g fitting but rather than go down half a size, I just throw an insole in and wear thicker socks. I found going down half a size like for like caused tightness in other parts of the shoe. I guess everyone has a different margin between one size and the next.

Cheers

All of my work shoes have leather soles but am fed up of sliding on London pavements so just ordered a couple of pairs with Dainite soles.

These are the first to arrive, Crockett and Jones Hallam

Just bought two more pairs as I'm terrified of ruining my cheaneys in the rain. Both a bit more budget friendly but love them and the fit is perfect for me.

Firstly Bertie Rigbys: £90, love the detailing on the side

And Bertie Reno contrast in brown for £60:

These are for going out in, was unsure when ordering but they look great in the flesh with a pair of jeans.

Bought a pair of Black Peter Werth shoes as a cheap gamble but the fit was really narrow and was disappointed with the finish, so they went back today.

I'm now in need of a black pair of brogues for around the £50-90 mark if anyone spots any bargains.

If anyone fancies anything in Cloggs try the code WONDER10 for a tenner off which I got with my shoes smile

I'm a huge C&J fan and you can't go wrong with Danite soles.

Oh yes you can. I've just binned a pair that were killing me, digging into the exact same spot on the ball of my foot with every step. Most annoying.

I have replaced them with a cheap pair of rubber soled Clarks and will get my leather soled work shoes half-soled.

Ouch!

Which model were they? Could you feel a ridge or anything with your hand inside the shoe?

Also, did they have a layer of leather sole inbetween the dainite and welt? Some do some dont.

ETA: Pic of the Dainite soles on my C&J Bradford showing the leather layer.

They were Barker Leybourne; quite lovely to look at. They appeared to have a layer over the Dainite stuff, obviously not enough, and I tried Odor Eaters, but to no avail - they just poked and poked in that one point. Leather and a rubber half sole for me, at least for this winter.
