All of my work shoes have leather soles but am fed up of sliding on London pavements so just ordered a couple of pairs with Dainite soles.
I have taken to wearing a pair with Dainite soles to work and changing to leather soles when I get to work. Would prefer a pair of slippers but not in the dress code for men. 13m said:

Just took delivery of these.
They look like they'd fit a kangaroo perfectly..With regards to spending £1000 on a pair of shoes, surely the same argument could be made about cars. Why spend £40,000 on a new BMW when you coud get an old Fiesta for £500. Or watches-nothing wrong with a £50 Seiko, but sometimes you want a £4000 Rolex or Omega, etc.

They are the shape of kangaroos' feet. They probably look good on the wearer, but on the sofa they look like footwear for kangaroos. With regards to spending £1000 on a pair of shoes, surely the same argument could be made about cars. A grand for shoes doesn't concern me. A grand (I think they are £1050) for those shoes I wouldn't pay. But I like that the owner likes them and was prepared to invest in good shoes.

How do they fit and are they comfortable?Obviously the cost is associated with the quality of craftsmanship, the time to produce and the fact they are made to order, but I am genuinely interested in what you get over a pair of very good (£200-300) off shelf shoes.

As will all things the cost vs. value is not often a linear calculation however, I find it easy to justify the extra cost when comparing how finely finished they are compared to other makes. G&G are very particular with the leather they use and I find their lasts to be particularly sleek and flattering to my feet (a paltry size 7). In short they are as close to flawless as you could expect this side of bespoke but I appreciate the styles and lasts are not to everybody's taste. They are in my opinion at the same level as Edward Green who cater for the more classic styles.
Another thing that may be slightly overlooked is the quality of their service. I find it particularly impressive that even before placing my order I was put through to Dean Girling to discuss my options first-hand. Imagine phoning up any other company and getting that service.
This is a good insight in to the company.

And I note that James Bond was wearing Dainite soled shoes in SPECTRE. Good enough for James..good enough for me.

I always thought the M&S marking was just for winter tyres, but I should now have plenty of plenty of grip on my feet for the winter
ooooo - i like the look of those - my parkrun this week was around muddy football pitches, so i could have used the extra grip InductionRoar said:

now all power to you if you can afford to drop that kind of money on a pair of shoes, but they don't look massively special to me. Maybe that's the attraction of course, and I am sure they are good quality... i am sure the picture doesn't do the value any justice.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
