Bah!

High tops CAN be Ok. So long as they are simple with no stupid "design" going on. Probably no more than 2 colours either. Also discount anything Converse or Vans.

This

(Yes I know Puma not Adidas)

Not

And Penny Loafers are the preserve of people I do not want to socialise with! Probably teamed with shorts, no socks and pastel coloured short sleeve shirts in Summer! nonobiggrin

If you want to be properly involved you'll need something like this:

I'm in need of some black Oxfords so will hopefully add these to the thread shortly. I have 3x pairs of Loakes, all in brown (or tan in the case of the Chelsea boots) and will possibly try a new brand. I live in Northampton so it would be rude not to try the factory shops.

If you fancy a chuckle (and I'm sure worse examples can be found) have a look on the Selfridges website at trainers and sort by price - some of the styles are just bizarre.

As I understand it, any amount of punching along a given seam of overlaid leather (such as a toe cap) makes the shoe a brogue.
And it's that fussiness I don't like. Looks flowery to me. AIUI they were intended for country use, shooting and fishing and the like, probably with tweed and plus fours. How they then became de rigueur for wearing with jeans down the pub or with a suit I'm not sure.

Although I'm not sure that's actually the case outside of this thread. smile

Many years ago I was given a pair of Hugo Boss Trainers. Gawd knows how much they were, IIRC north of £100. They were SHOCKING! They hurt your feet after a while as they were all style and no support! And didnt last very well either!

I vowed never to buy these or any of the other fashion house trainers. The various "Fashion x Shoe company" collaborations are fine since you are relying on a shoe company to make the shoe properly for feet and the designers to just change the exterior.

What, you actually mean that you wouldn't run down to your nearest Selfridges for some £500 Next by Tom Ford pumps because you can't take a bit of discomfort and obvious built in obsolescence? Shame on your poor ass soul!

Clearly you know that your jeans and carpet allow scope for criticism.

I'm looking for a pair of brown brogues. They *have* to be boots and they have to have a soft heel strike. I'm thinking Loake Bedale, but if I can't wear them does anyone have any alternatives?

Clearly you know that your jeans and carpet choice of "driving shoes" allow scope for criticism.

has the thread ruined you to the point that you couldn't choose between brown brogues and trainer boots?

What kind of trousers do you wear with those?

Kind of serious because those look like reasonably formal shoes and I couldn't imagine formal trousers "hanging" properly over the ankle straps as they look a bit "puffy" vs. something like a Chelsea boot.
