My sister was at her place in Tuscany last week,I'll ask her what the heat was like when she gets back.
Wish I was there, don't think I've ever experienced heat in the 40s.

You get really clear skin in proper hot places because you're always sweaty. Death Valley was the hottest I've experienced. Too hot.

Is that the end of Summer then Pugs?
I can't offer any hope at the moment...

I suspect something will restart early September, when the kids are back at school. Purely because this torrid weather started when they broke up, as usual. No science involved.

You haven't been reading the Express have you, spawn of Diablo will send temperatures spiraling in next few weeks - or something akin!

After promising to be a scorcher, July ended up with a CET of 16.8C +0.7C relative 1961-90.
It was about the 90th warmest out of the 359 years of the CET, and the nearest to average since January.

August is unsurprisingly running negative so far, but I expect it will even out.

Although we haven't had any individually amazingly hot record months, only March was in the top 10, with the run of months all on the warm side, it was looking like 2017 was going to be the warmest annual CET 'ever', but the last 6 weeks have made that a lot less likely now.

(Of course there is a debate how accurate this is with the CET sites now all pretty well affected by development and the change to electronic instrumentation - both of which affect readings and make direct comparisons problematic.)

Here comes the rain again, as Annie once lamented.

Flash floods appearing along the east coast with places like East Riding and NE Lincolnshire being hit quite hard.

What do you think it's going to do in North Yorks this weekend Mr Puggit?
OH and I are headed up there for a couple of relaxing days and she wants to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower at night. Looking like cloudy, but not much rain maybe?

On another note I read they are forecasting the wettest Winter ever, but think that it's pointless to forecast so far in advance, maybe they are just plotting the trend....

I wondered the reason for this.

Any chance of the end of August looking nice? I have a garden party BH weekend.

Puggit, would you mind looking into your crystal ball and seeing what the weathers likely to be like in the Northern Belgium, Dutch and South Western German for the last two weeks of August please.

I've been looking at long range forecasts, probably a waste of time, but they all seem to use different models. I've seen results from copious amounts of rain, to low 30's Celsius.

What are you hoping to experience? Its pretty unpleasant, especially as much of the med doesn't believe in airconditioning.

yes it's utterly debilitating. Luckily the only time I have experienced it was in Vegas and they definitely believe in air conditioning biggrin

I agree. Unless you are used to it (and even the locals hide in peak heat...) then anything above about 38c is pretty unpleasant, though the humidity is as much a variable.

Personally I'm fine with 35c (and a good breeze), providing it cools down at night... but no thanks to 40+

Tonight is a good night wink

Some improved (but cool) weather over the weekend. Sat night looking good at the moment for lack of cloud. Most places should have breaks in the cloud if not no cloud at all.

There is no real end in sight to the Atlantic currently. So it just depends how far south east the effects are reaching. Waning and waxing, unlikely to be a real scorcher.

As the heat dissipates from the far south and east of Europe it is due to re-surge in the west up through Spain and right to the North of France, but probably not make it over the channel. It would only take a small change to suck some hot air up over us. But not forecast to happen at the moment.

So no el bdo spawn of diablo just yet.

1) There is hope - 2 models (GEM and ECM) are showing potential for high pressure and warmer weather next week (Monday 21st ish). This is too far to be certain, and might not happen.

2) Plenty of rubbish weather to see us through until then.

So after a dire start yesterday turned out ok.
At one point in the afternoon it was clear blue sky.

Things are beginning to shape up for improvement next week, plus tropical storm Gert is looking to enter the jet stream and make it wobbly, allowing us to rid ourselves of this pain!

No promises, just good potential.
