Oh dear that's not good is it, I noticed the Stelvio pass doesn't have much snow on it either compared to other years.

The winter of 1946/7 started unseasonably warm without any cold snaps until the second week in January...

Christmas Eve 5 years ago here in t'Dales just before 10am.

At 4.30 am that morning I was up driving my baby daughter about to try get her to sleep. It was -22.

Hope we get some more of that. Was ace. We had snow on the ground for 39 consecutive days that winter and it didn't get above freezing for a 6 day period at one point.

There is an odd yellow ball in the sky today and it's accompanied by a blue sky, should I report it to the authorities?

What a relief after what has seemed to be utterly endless grey, damp and dank days....

We also saw the strange celestial apperitions, but I'm pleased to say the familiar and comforting grey sky has returned.

Yes. My colleague who lives in DC has said this is the first green Christmas there that he can remember.

Nature is all about balance, so something is going to have to give, as the pendulum is wayyyyyy over one side at the moment.
Completely normal

Just been out on the MTB, in shorts, the Garmin gps was reading 14 degrees! Its December, I should be in full thermals by now!

Yup, took the kids for a ride in the forest this morning. Just tshirts and hoodies and no gloves. Ridiculous.

I remember driving to my parents and the snow was like concrete on the rural main roads and -17c at lunchtime. The snotter on winters and the odd 4x4 were practically the only cars to get into the village, but I couldn't get over how hard the snow on the ground was.

Just two years ago it took a month for this to clear.

It was 9 feet deep in places and just when we had a path cleared it was filled the next day.

I beached the snotter on a 3 foot snow drift just outside the house. At least I made it home. I must admit I was starting to get really worried that night the front bumper had become a snow plough.

The army had to mobilise a couple of Chinooks that night to start feeding starving cattle.

This is looking promising.

But equally could be nothing; the forecast yesterday had none of this.

No idea what it could be. We're not due the sun for approximately another month so just running around the in dark not seeing anything these days!

I was looking at my weather app today and it shows the highest and lowest temps for each day, it makes you realise that this mild weather isn't very unusual at all.

2006/1987/1991/2012/1997/2011 all had mild temps in December over the last few days higher than now where I am, comparing 2010 to 2011 for Christmas day is bonkers a high of 11c in 2011 compared to a low of -7c in 2010.

(my weather app could be telling porkies)

Fair play to the long range forecasters on NetWeather, as this is currently exactly as they predicted: a mild and stormy December.

If their forecasts are in line, then the cold snap will be mid-Jan.

In other news, the daffodils are coming up out front............(I kid you not)
