Be of no doubt, LandCruisers go wrong too and in an expensive manner.
And unlike popular British brands, there are no pattern or OEM parts available for Toyota, Mitsubishi etc. Only genuine parts at genuine prices!Fair comment about the parts. They are not cheap. My scepticism, for the LR brand comes from the fact that I can't trust a brand who has yet to master the relatively simple process of producing a chassis that does not scab over at two/three years old. It's the same with the wonky oval tail pipes on the XF. If they (a manufacturer) can't get the core (or in the case of the XF, the very very trivial) design right, what about the bits you can't see and the reason I would never have an XF.
I followed a 2010 Defender a few weeks ago. The back of it had more scabs than a pox ridden 17th century Whitechapel street girl.
Fair enough, you've got 30 odd years of experience of the cars and you trust them. But here's my little acid test. Two cars, an FFRR and a Landcruiser. One trip to make; south coast, to Skye. Winter and snowing and you have a trailer to pull. Which would you take. For me, it is absolutely a no brainer.

If an RRC or P38 or TD6 L322 then I'd take the Toyota.
But a V8 or TDV8 onwards L322 would get my vote in a heartbeat. They are the first Land Rover product I can think of that does not have a major foible at all, and they certainly do not rust either. I gather the L405 is pretty robust too

I'm not sure the L405 has been out long enough to really get an idea of how reliable it is long term, and certainly in the LR forum there's a good few with problems! But yes, it does seem they have at least tried to step the quality up a bit although given how much they are now charging for it they kind of had to. Different strokes for different folks though, obviously a lot of people like yourself love LR products so they obviously have some attraction.

As requested, the Range Barge in its new habitat:
For the record, both ah early 2 door Velar/RRC, and an Overfinch 570, are on my list of dream Land Rovers but would be somewhat impractical for a daily on the wet muddy country lanes round here
Looks good, Matt. For the record, both ah early 2 door Velar/RRC, and an Overfinch 570, are on my list of dream Land Rovers but would be somewhat impractical for a daily on the wet muddy country lanes round here
I like the colour too.
But: early 20s, driving a range rover round Liverpool...!
(What can you get me for the weekend?)

This is starting to sound far too much like one of those saddo car forums.
Back to trivia. I'm looking after some gerbils for my sis when she's away this weekend. I don't mind doing it, it's soothing to watch them go about their business with no regard for anything else but I'm not looking forward to the smell.
