How long ago was this Lboro discovery?
I went to Loughborough, and its surrounded on all sides apart from one by housing estates. The only open side is towards the motorway where British Gas are based.
Agreed - sounds a bit like b*llocks to me. I was there about 10yrs ago, and nothing like this was ever mentioned, in rumour or otherwise. Also, none of the halls that I knew of were sufficiently 'in the wilderness' to have been anywhere near something like this. Loughborough, despite being a relatively small town, is still built-up enough for something like this not to have gone un-noticed - and, all off-campus halls are still within the confines of the village itself, meaning that this 'base' would have been within spitting distance of 60k people (plus 20-odd-k students).I went to Loughborough, and its surrounded on all sides apart from one by housing estates. Students, being the inquisitive and time-rich little blighters that they are, would have probably found something like this a thousand times over in the 30-odd years that this 'mate' claims it had lain dormant.
Sorry, until I see photos, I'm putting this one down as a hoax.

The kit has to be accounted for so for a base to be suddenly abandoned leaving live weapons behind is in the realms of unbelievable unless they weren't actually live weapons but some sort of mock ups that the military often use for exercises or demos.
The pics would help us see what the score is!

That'll be a BM-21 Grad launcher then, a modern Stalin organ, left over from the Libya - Egypt war? Along with the the unexploded ordinance, I think it was only Tripoli the Yanks bombed in the 80s.
What are those other trucks used for then?
we found quite a bit of stuff out there thinking back i remember there being a few vehicles, a tank and a pretty big plane, sadly no picsWhat are those other trucks used for then?

Notes that they were demolished fairly recently after being shuttered up for years, and a new centre built on the site. This must've been what he was referring to. Sounds like it was some kind of signalling & comms centre.

Rather a sad looking North American F100 Super Sabre; where's that then? Are those froggy markings?
They are in Kent. I believe I spotted them on the way to Pluckley one afternoon Twincam16 said:

So, what on earth would all these "weapons (including missiles)" be doing at a communications base?
Also, why would anyone have wanted to cover up the (planned) demolition of that place?
Plus it is literally nowhere near any of the University halls of residence.
I smell a (slightly-exaggerating) rodent. Did the 'mate' send through any pics?

Here's some from the last remaining bit of the Littlemore Asylum. Bought by Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co. & opened as a research institute in 1990, they re-built the central building, fitted-out the west wing & mothballed the east wing (very much as it was left when the NHS vacated).
Without doubt, THE most unnerving building I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. You could almost hear the screams.
The quality of the shots is a bit naff, as I was there to do a survey.

Just clarified the name with him - Sutton Bonington. Somewhere between Loughborough and Nottingham.
RAF Newton - looks like someone else got there first with a camera:

Thats quite some walking....takes almost 1/2 an hour by car. Would Wymeswold be possible? Its a sight closer though as its used for car driving possibly less likely. They have started doing some work on Newton in the last year or so to help with widening the A46 though.RAF Newton - looks like someone else got there first with a camera:

He definitely confirms it was near Sutton Bonington. I think Newton is more likely seeing as though the pictures on that website are more like the ones he showed me than the ones I'm seeing of Wymeswold on 28DL, which looks totally derelict with no machinery, locked doors or vehicles left around, or even a roof on the buildings.
The munitions factory/store at Ruddington is considerably closer and is between L'boro/Notts. The railway was kept open as a spur when the rest of it was shut down to carry on servicing it. Its now under the country park/transport museum.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
