i really like monk straps but Mrs 2CV absolutely hates them. That wouldn't normally bother me, but the constant ear ache makes it not appear so worth it...
Mine was the same but once on in the shop she changed her tune !!

I think many people associate monk straps with 1980s middle management. But the current take on them is fresh and looks sharp.

From what I've seen lately, that's fashionable at the moment. Kids today, eh?
I know this is very childish but I cannot help pointing at these types (think the tight TOWIE look) and saying to the Mrs....

"Ah look, he is wearing his kid brother's suit"

I also know I have limited fashion sense so generally play pretty safe and 'trad' but why do Sheep (think TOWIE again) jump on the very latest 'trend' that Mak Wright (there are other examples) is seen wearing. Ten minutes later it has moved on!!

I guess fashion has always been a fickle business/game but there are some very transient styles and utter wksocket styles running around these days.... (And I have shoes that aren't brogues smile )

Just checking out the lacing gap on a pair of my oxfords after the conversation earlier about whether it should be closed or gaping

Woah! I'm just trying to imagine a scenario when I would wear a pair of union jack patent leather oxfords.

I was told I needed to supply my own steel toe caps boots for when I'm down on the production line at my new place of work.

After looking around shoe zone for a dirt cheap pair i thought, fk it, and went to the Doc Shop and picked up a pair there for a snip @ £50. Seem incredibly well made and reasonably comfy for a pair of steelies.

Whilst I was there I had a look around and also picked up a pair of office/work shoes too. From their "made in England" line, again at a bargain price of £25!

I'm not usually a fan of DMs and find them very clunky and uncomfortable. But these are incredibly comfy and actually a half decent shape. And at £25 I couldn't turn my nose up.

I think 'worst nightmare' would be the only imaginable scenario.

Even had they been photographed on a decent patch of parquet flooring, they would have remained equally grim.
Sorry, I realise that is particularly crude.

Good point. This looks like entry level laminate flooring, or maybe even lino.

Need to up your shoe and floor game, Son!

If you're working in the UK then you've been diddled, the employer has a legal obligation to supply any PPE they deem necessary for the job. If you work through an agency, the agency must supply it. Many employers and agencies just let the employees pay for it, because they don't know the law or understand their rights around PPE.

actually she associates them with a barely adult version of children's shoes from the 70s. Of course she is wrong.

what other people have said, and also they remind me of those black trainers that some people think they can't get away with when the dress code dictates shoes.

Bit harsh on cragjm.

I know from his car posts that he's usually a man of taste, and his advice to others on sartorial matters has been sound, so I'm guessing they're nowhere near as bad as they look for real, or he's puling our collective chain.

it isn't a personal slight: it's purely about the shoes.
