Link doesn't work but that's definitely not a Cuban heel. Any JW shoes that have the hoof design heel are not Cuban. The Cuban heels are a good inch or so higher. I couldn't wear that

They dont have a Cuban heel. The standard heel at JW is hoof shaped and normal height.
I'm pretty sure mine are higher than anything else I have, in fact I know it. Not Cuban, but definitely higher than standard.

I'd have those boots in a second if it was a normal heel.

Sorry if that link didn't work.

However the JW website is pretty clear with regard to that model and it's Cuban heel!

That looks like a different shoe to the red one you posted as that only has two straps and the black one has more

These were the exact version my friend bought from Asos , says Cuban heel on the website and in his actual product bow too.

Oh yeah looks much more Cuban in that pic. I don't have any Cuban heels in my collection they are all the standard Devils hoof heel

All of these corkers? I am talking about ONE pair of shoes. The correct etiquette for such occasions is a shoe such as this

These shoes are therefore just a slight play on the theme. They are not shoes to wear with anything other than their intended purpose

Of course Meridius, throw stones but pray show us the shoes you wear to your black tie evenings if you are to do so wink

Oh by the way, Nigelpugh, the reason you were unable to find your friends shoes on the Jeffrey West site is that they make two ranges of shoes. Proper Goodyear welted or Blake stitched shoes available in their own stores and online from their site and a cheaper range that they sell through Asos and other retailers. There is no comparison in the quality of the two ranges.

Cuban heels must taper and it doesn't look like any of these do - though I am happy to be corrected.

Craig

Now we've established that you favour the taller heel, have you considered these?

Playful, well-made, nice bit of detail. Paired with your dinner suit, thats your sprezzatura right there.

I never said I prefer the taller heel. I said that I don't have any Cuban heeled shoes and that I wouldn't buy any. I don't need the extra height and I don't like the style

They look like something one might expect a Madrid rent boy to wear.

The description doesn't seem far off either; "Playful, well-made, nice bit of detail..."

Are the cheaper ones cemented/glued sole? Is the leather/details poorer quality too?

I think JW shoes are a little but too avantgarde for me (especially for work outfits).

Yes that's right they are a completely different quality level. Which of course you would expect as they are generally half the price.

One would hope that is just the way they want to show off the shoes. IMO you should NEVER wear shoes without socks hurl
