A guy who works on our IT service desk always asks users who can't log in, to make sure they haven't got "Cap Locks" turned on.

It's caps lock, you prat.

The IUPAC periodic table lists both Aluminum and Aluminium, while it might grate, both are equally correct
They can't "both be equally correct". They are both correct, or one is incorrect, equally doesn't come in to it.

2 men are equally tall. They are the same height. They are both x feet. They are not both the same height. If one of the left the other one would still be that tall. They are the same sex, they are not both the same sex.

If one was a woman they would not both be different genders, they would just be different gender.

I'm not sure I made that clear.....

Shopping this afternoon in Sainsbury's and overheard a mother in her 30's asking her daughter (circa 9 / 10 y/o) to help her pick out some "Letters, Tom-ratoes and Bra-nanas" from the fruit & veg section banghead

Edit - Googled Bra-nana and maybe she meant this hehe

There was a gaggle of scummy mums, circa mid to late '20's, sat outside the Starbucks concession at my local Sainsbury's this afternoon. As I walked past, I heard one of them referencing their upcoming trip to London Zoo to see "The Naminals".

Thought I'd bump this after hearing a woman, in her 30's, in Waitrose this afternoon asking a member of staff if they had any "Panna-Tonai" available laugh

The member of staff asked if she meant "Panettone" to which she replied "Yes. That's what I said "Panna-Tonai" laugh

At this point there was a fair amount of chuckling from those of us that were in the queues for the tills nearby hehe

Just seen the third post on Pistonheads in as many days with someone saying "elude" when they clearly meant "allude". One doesn't elude to something one alludes to it. I wonder if there's some predictive speller on the latest iplod/phone/gizmo that's doing this because surely can't be such a strange and sudden outbreak of illiteracy? laugh

I now possess a kindle fire.
Sometimes, it is the devils work. It's autocorrect often replaces to with too or of with off and I have no idea why. It makes one type like an illiterate buffoon.

They can and are both correct, the original spelling was the American way, they continued to use it while in Europe the 'new' spelling was used as it fitted better with existing chemical names.

Just as tyre and tire are both correct for the rubber hoops we put round our wheels, it just depends on who is using the it.

On the Steve Wright show yesterday they had a 'talky bit' about coffee and that daft woman on there reckoned to know all about it, she and the others referred to something called 'Expresso' all the way through.

A poor attempt at "instances" by some? Which by itself, looks like a horrible word.

"Voila!" pronounced "wallah".

"Coup de grace" pronounced "cou de gra" not "cou de grass".

"Kudo" used as the singular of the (singular) word "kudos".
