If so, I'm surprised that they have a Dainite option. Is the Dainite option cheaper than the leather sole at that level? It must be cheaper to make given the extra steps needed on a fine leather sole.

As I said, I agree with much of your gist, but I still maintain that dainite soles, whilst perhaps being less sleek and appearing less slim (although I'd argue that stock pictures accentuate the differences you're highlighting rather more clearly than on any shoe in normal use) are not in any significant way more obvious than leather.

There's a place for both in any wardrobe of course, but I'd argue that anyone that claims dainite offers nothing positive over leather is misguided.
Absolutely agree. A lot of the differences are only evident upon close inspection which realistically nobody (even if they were interested) would ever notice during normal use.

Dainite does in my opinion offer a functionally superior alternative to leather in moderately poor weather and chunkier soles often look better on more rustic models so it doesn't really offer a drawback on those.

No leather shoes or boots are designed for absolute saturation and if subject to that sort of weather the sole will make very little difference.

They are G&G Sinatras.

Dainite is the same price as the oak bark fiddle-backed soles - double leather soles are slightly more.

Seems mad doesn't it?

Indeed!

I see Danite as a like-for-like option against a bench grade open channel leather sole.

I would never choose Dainite over oak bark tanned closed channel leather sole of the same price. Probably why you don't see many "expensive" (£700+) shoes on Dainite.

I may be mad but I was thinking of getting rubber soles if I were to order a pair of Vass. wobble

Crockett & Jones has replaced the studded dainites with city sole which I think looks much nicer

Vass, as I'm sure you are aware are hand welted and forego the stitching of the rubber soles (this cannot be done by hand) and as a result rely entirely on the cement to do its job. This has two advantages and one (potential) disadvantage as far as I'm concerned. Firstly, the lack of stitching means that there are no stitching holes for water to seep into and no thread to soak up the water. Secondly, the sole looks much cleaner. The possible disadvantage is that you are entirely reliant on the cement forming a strong enough bond to the sole though I have not heard of failures in this regard.

I'm pretty sure I have seen some examples of Vass finishing the edge of rubber soles (it tends to be only the hand welted makers who do this).

I quite like the look of monk shoes for work as a change to what I usually wear.

Ideally black or dark brown. Any recommendations for a budget of c £200?

Guys

I am looking for something like these C&J Hallams, (rubbers sole),

but more like this colour:

Has anyone seen anything fitting that description please?

Must have rubbers soles and ideally a slightly square toe.

Not had a leather soled shoe for a long time till my current Sendra. I guess they'll be my top dollar going shoe and won't be used that much. I want a knock about boot too though, to replace my old Cats.

Hiya pal, Most of mine I get from facebook groups tbh, apart from that the new release i usually try the Adidas website if general release as normally have discount codes from there, Size?, Hanon, End, FootPatrol, SNS, Caliroots, Well Gosh to name a few,

Not really got any photo's of the full collection as they are scattered around to make space but not got as many as people seem to think lol,
Some great sites there, thanks a lot for that! Am tempted by a pair of the Jeans, but will try and get the a pair of the Athens's that release on Friday. Will look for a few fb groups aswell, thanks.

If you have any 7's that are surplus to requirements then please keep me in mind.

Jeans will all end up on sale so I wouldn't rush, Athens are gonna be hard to get onlines. I have booked Friday morning off work to queue up as i think that will be the best chance, unfortunately I am an 8.5/9 so no spares haha

As far as I can tell, it's comfier than leather and a lot more resilient. Can't see why you wouldn't?

Edit: my shoes look awful in that photo, they are in good condition - honest!

Ok, I live miles from a size store and cannot take the time off, so will have to just give it a go online! I see some people/traders are taking pre-orders for the Athens seems strange!! Is there going to be a big markup re-sale like the Manchester's?

Great thanks for that advise. The Gor-tex are also nice but at £100 not nice enough, did you get any versions of them?

Crew. Very light.
For completeness, just thought I'd mention that I took these back. Prominent seam, especially in right shoe, made them uncomofortable for me. Pity, as they were just what I was after.

Okay, I can imagine how you might take the first photo while your foot was in the shoe, but how did you manage to position yourself to get the second one? More importantly how did you manage to avoid the jeers from your colleagues upon performing this feat of acrobatic flexibility?

Artificial leg? Just un-clipped it for the purposes of the photo...
