What can I say? I am truly humbled by that....amazing. Your generosity (and that of others on here that have offered help) has really left me completely gobsmacked that people I don't even know are willing to help someone out that has had a bit of a crap time - While it has been a st few days (and an expensive few days), I really couldn't take any of you up on your kind offers. There are many more people that are much worse off than I and it would be wrong for me to accept, after all this is just money (albeit with a bit of time to re-boost the confidence of my daughter). Please don't see this as me rejecting your offers, just your messages have been more than I expected from a rant. (How did I score out of 10 on that rant anyway? No-one scored it.)

WhatNow, I might actually message you anyway as I quite fancy Orlando next year (but I'll pay for it!) biggrin

Superb, it is good too know that there are still genuinely top blokes out there, WhatNow what an amazing gesture and Joyrider1 you have handled this impeccably, try and get a copy of the cctv, I am sure we want to see scumbag getting punched in the face, plus the tape may speed things up with insurance.
Easier said than done but try to forget all about it for now and make the most of your holiday, they stole some posessions, do not let them steal a potentially great family holiday.

P.S. WhatNow I had been planning Orlando with the family next year or possibly early 2014, had made no arrangements but if you rent out a villa I would be interested in checking out your website, I would rather give my money to a decent bloke, and I would not be looking for discount, If it is out of my range I wont waste your time, thanks.

According to the police yesterday, it happens about 3 times a day in the car rental car park in Malaga. Why they don't just put barriers up I've no idea - that would at least put a stop to the grab and run...
I just can`t understand why the police, car rental operators or the airport authorities don`t act if this is so commonplace. It`s hardly a good advert for Spain is it?

OP, hope you enjoy your holiday.

Not much else to add other than I am absolutely amazed at the generosity of people on this forum, but WhatNow, that is possibly the most amazing offer I've seen on PH. Good fella.

Because the police don't care and are too short sighted to realise the potential effect on tourism. The car hire people are too stupid to realise it could end up meaning they are out of a job. And its only tourists being affected, not Spanish people.

If something like that happened to me I'd be pissed off but it wouldn't make me not go back there. If I then heard it happened several times a day I'd be fuming... I wouldn't come back. How many other potential scams are there floating about that they could have closed off, but just couldn't be bothered?

Are you going to be able to get new passports before you're due to leave the villa? If not you can use one of my properties if you like... they're all in Portugal (Vilamoura) but only 2-3 hours from Malaga by car.
Yeah, we should be okay - apparently they will issue us with emergency passports on the day we go in to get them, and they will be valid until we get home (at 124 euros each!! FFS it seems the British Consulate are getting in on the robbing act too)...

But hey, thankyou so much for the offer! My earlier sentiments remain, I really can't believe the response my rant has had from everyone on PH, you have all reminded me that there are nice people in the world after all...bow

Must of been awful for you, especially when you realised what they had grabbed.

Take solace in the generosity of the anyone offering help to restore your faith in people in general.

Having your passport stolen is always a massive pain. My first holiday abroad to Gran Canaria resulted in me leaving my passport on the sofa while I went for a swim. When I got back to the room the maid had been in and 'cleaned'. Resulted in a trip to the british consulate for an emergency passport, I think it was around 100e 5 years ago.

Anyway try and enjoy the rest of your holiday, you and your family have my full sympathies.

At last we've been able to have a more chilled out day, just me, the wife and the kids, trying to put all of this st behind us. Thankyou everyone for your messages of support, my wife has been reading this thread with me and it's made us both feel so much better (even if I did have some explaining to do with regards to my username :-) LOL)

OP - Sickening thing to happen to you and your family, I hope you manage to salvage something out of the 'holiday'. Just remember, "what goes around, comes around" - I'm a firm believer in this.

Like many others on here, I wish you well.

Hi - we had all our passports stolen from a villa in Ibiza a couple of years back. The thieves smashed a safe (weighing in at 30kg apparently) out of a block of concrete set into the bottom of a wardrobe. Got away with 5 passports, a watch and a couple of credit cards - so not much of a haul for quite a lot of effort.

We didn't need replacement passports to get back into UK. We just had the airline fax a few bits of paper back and forth and travelled on some faxed paperwork. No issues getting back into UK at all.

The consulate never answered the 'phone as I recall so we just took advice from the carrier - Easyjet I think - got a crime number from Police and it was easy to sort out.

We're just waiting for a friend of ours to get onto our PC at home to retrieve our flight details after which we'll call BMI to ask them if there's any way of doing the same - If it can save us 500 Euros then that's got to be worth a shot - We spoke to someone in Malaga airport who said that around 3 months ago that would've been possible just to fly based on the police report, but she seemed to think they'd got tighter on this recently. Will try anyway, thanks for the advice.

OP - first gutted to hear your story for you and the family. I was in Malaga airport about a month back and hadn't appreciated it wasn't barriered until after I was actually en route. There are NO signs up either warning people that criminals are active in the area - something that if there are three incidents per day you think might be useful? I know I had me and the OH walking around the car with a digital camera taking pictures to make sure they didn't screw us over - never even thought about our stuff - but will do from now on.

It rings especially true as my sister and niece were out there at the same time and it will have taken all of them in that car to hold the baby, fit the car seat, load the luggage - they're just sitting ducks for these fkers. And I know how much stuff my niece needs in terms of bottles, feeds, nappies etc - it just snowballs really.

I hope you and your family get over this quickly, enjoy the sunshine and have a great rest of your time away. smile

Oh and by the way, no documents, no problem seemingly.... smilehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-18...

(It would appear the trick is mingling...)
