However I think that there is a balance between tradition and style, and obsessing over tradition can be as big a mistake as any imo. Ticking all the boxes on the 'correct way' list, doesn't guarantee anything really does it?
I agree entirely. I do not obsess over tradition.i take the advice of how something should be and then for me rules are there to be played with and broken. I have a number of classic Savile Row suits but I happily pair them with patterned shirts, aventgarde Jeffery West shoes, ties tied in unconventional knots etc. You have to work out what suits you, take on board the traditional advice as sound foundation and then just have fun playing with colour, design and texture.
The one rule that I stick to is that if I see something that I like but I think that I couldn't wear it. I over-rule my inner voice and I will buy it. You are not here to blend in, you are here to stand out. As long as that is done with consideration to elegance and style it is all good in my book
I would caveat that with one first having a good understanding of 'the rules' before attempting to break/twist them.
The rules are a good starting point and guideline if in doubt however.

To laugh at the utterly ridiculous 'style' PH posters appear to aspire to!
That long, rambling post about suits was a real highlight. What a pretentious toss pot.
you're wasting your time as you clearly don't get it. It's OK to not care about style. Again, no-one gives a st what you wear to the football or down the local shopping arcade. Different things are important to different people. However if you're not willing to show us what you think is well-dressed then your opinions are just an mildly irritating noise. A bit like having a mosquito in the room but you're not sure where. To laugh at the utterly ridiculous 'style' PH posters appear to aspire to!

Gents recommend me a decent leather jacket? Preferably biker style, not a massive budget and willing to go used...
I like black, but will consider other options if you can find anything?
On the high street you could try All Saints, where you will probably pay £300-400. Or you could try Wested leather, who make leather jackets for the film industry. Because their jackets are basically something intended to last the duration of the making of a film they aren't the last word in quality, but they are cheap and look good.I like black, but will consider other options if you can find anything?

all saints is (or at least was) some of the poorest quality clothing out there. Just the most overpriced dishcloths!!
Not my experience.Though I don't own any of it myself, my wife has some and it's okay and two people I know have their leather jackets which are fine for the money.
All Saints was one of Kevin Stanford's creations - he was also behind Karen Millen and I'd suggest the quality is comparable.

Sorry for taking the thread back to waistlines, but I never knew. As much as I'd love a bespoke suit, it's not going to happen, and for the next few years any expensive clothes are out. So to the point, is there anywhere I (6'2") could find true waistline trousers on the high street? I'm sure I've never seen any...

truly what? massive?craigjm said:
The trousers should sit on your true waist which for most people means that the waistband will be over their belly button. The bottom button of a two button suit should also be at this point.
While there's been a little debate about the exact positioning, your true waist is definitely higher than has become the norm in recent decades, which is often barely above hips. snobetter said:

Not really as its not a style thats generally copied because people are used to trousers sitting on their hips. Some of the Savile Row tailors like Huntsman and William Hunt sell online and their ready to wear stuff is quite similar in style. The other option is somewhere like Cad and the Dandy on the row will make bespoke trousers for around the same cost as the Huntsman offering.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
