These are what I'm considering
I have some Cheaney Tweed C boots (Tan grain on commando)How do they come up, large or small?

Pretty well made and nice soft flexible leather - much softer out of the box than Tricker's calf. The fit is good but there is a little too much volume around the inner arch for my foot. Doesn't ruin the comfort.
As with most country shoes/boots, the advice is to go down half a size from your normal oxfords. They are designed to be worn with thick socks,
Their standard width fitting is F, so the up/down a size depends a bit on how wide your feet are too.
They're a bit clompy when new, but soon settle into being spectacularly comfortable. I've had mine for years and walked right through them and factory re-furbed. Probably my favourite boot.
ive hardly worn mine as its not exactly boot wearing weather out here. i do find the upper/collar a little too soft and loose fitting. i also don't think my feet are a cheaney 'fit'. comfortable yes but not overly so.
thinking of some oliver Sweeney tan brogue boots next as, despite them being a tad overpriced for the quality, their shoes fit my feet perfectly. my Aldeburghs are easily the most comfortable shoe i own.

Here are some photos taken last Saturday at the London SuperTrunk show held in Mayfair. There are some great selections to try on which are rarely available in the UK. Plenty of shoe aficionados around, shoe polishing competition and talks after. I didn't attend some of it as I headed down to Jermyn Street after that.
First off, we have some displays by Justin Fitzpatrick shoes aka theshoesnob.com
Patina demonstration by Caulaincourt shoes from Paris
Next up we have Vass shoes from Budapest (great value for all handmade shoes)
Norman Vilalta from Barcelona has some really interested textured calf shoes!
Skolyx was there too, very reasonably priced shoes
Topping up on some Saphir polish
Stefano Bemer from Italy

Fantastic post, as always. Are the two brown shoes in the middle made from the 1786 Russian Reindeer, or just a very good copy? Owning a pair of shoes (or better still boots) made from that is my grail, but the price is just too eye-watering for me to justify and all the prime hides have been used years ago.
Did you see anything of the Japanese makers? I heard that Hiro Yanagimachi was premiering his RTW line and wondered whether they were hand-welted or not.

Thanks I think it's a copy, he told me it was aged artificially. Most of their shoes ain't cheap. I'll be posting the Japanese ones next Impeccable attention to detail. Ah, makes sense. Cleverleys wanted £1,200 extra to use the Russian leather. I bought a wallet instead.

Now that is some nice attention to detail. To be fair though, you are paying for it. Lol
Yeah, I don't mind it as it wasn't too much. Anyway, back to the pics
Here we have a range of shoes by Sabot, Antonio Meccariello and Yohei Fukuda

One badass Shoe horn!
Ramon Cuberta, check out the soles
The one that surprises me most was Carlos Santos. I've always wanted to try one and I have to say it fits well (I have to size down by 1), The arch support reminds me of EG but very reasonable price. I would be getting a pair in future.
White monks for sizing but I quite like it as it is.

Go on then, what's the 1786 Russian reindeer? Some centuries old reindeer dug out of the permafrost perfectly intact, then its hide used for high end shoe making, or have I got the wrong end of the stick? Are the two brown shoes in the middle made from the 1786 Russian Reindeer, or just a very good copy? The truth isn't to far from that! Replace permafrost with 200 year old ship wreck.FreeLitres said:

The truth isn't to far from that! Replace permafrost with 200 year old ship wreck.'On December 10th 1786 a storm forced the Metta Catharina to seek shelter in Plymouth Sound. She had been bound for the Mediterranean with a cargo of hemp and leather from the Russian Port of St. Petersburg. The Catherina broke free and was blown towards Mount Edgecumbe before sinking. The crew were able to get ashore but the ship and its cargo were lost - until almost 200 years later divers found a ship’s bell on the sea floor. Further investigation revealed bundles of hides littering the sea bed. They were remarkably well preserved after two centuries of immersion in black mud.
Since those hides were retrieved, many hundreds have been brought to the surface. They have been tanned the traditional Russian way, which involves soaking in pits of willow bark and currying with birch oil. The process gives them a very distinct aroma. Most of the hides have been cross hatched in the grain embossed by hand. The famous ‘Russia’ leather is renowned for it’s ability to resist water and repel insects.'
George Cleverley made some shoes, wallets and other items out of the said leather but given the rarity all sold some time back.
