When you have come to the edge.....
Discussion
I'm reading a book at the moment and came across this quote/saying that I thought was quite profound.
I've noticed quite a few recently that seem to relate to me and life generally. Thought I'd post it on here, but I'm more interested in others others that people have heard or seen that have touched them (non sexually) at times in their life.
'When you have come to the edge of all that you know and are about to drop off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things will happen,'
'That there will be something solid to stand on or you'll be taught to fly'

Which says it all about faith.'That there will be something solid to stand on or you'll be taught to fly'
Realism suggests breaking something at best, or more likely a nasty splatty death.
Thinking suggests getting a torch and having a look first; maybe a rope would be useful at this point too.
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise.

"The teacher will come when the student is ready."'That there will be something solid to stand on or you'll be taught to fly'
I find this with every book I read to a degree. I like to put it down to synchronicity putting one thing my way after another that might be useful to me.
OTOH It is more likely we both have come to a point where we are searching, not necessarily for guidance but maybe some deeper explanations to things, so perceive more in everything we look at... possibly even if it wasn't intended by the author... but that's a philosophical debate in itself I reckon.
two more I like lifted of my FB page:
'Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a mystery... but today, today is a gift, that's why it's called "The Present".' (Master Oogway-Kung Fu Panda but probably Confucius or similar )
"When we started, my ambitions were to have jet, a monkey, a house with a swimming pool and gaff in Ibiza. Did I ever get the monkey? I've got Liam, he's the only monkey I'll ever need." (no need to attribute, not so deep but insightful'ish and its economy of words I could really learn from )

Pessimism never helps a positive outcome. You will no doubt say nor will sticking your head the sand and that pessimism prepares you for the worst case scenario but no one ever won the lottery by not buying a ticket.and who wants to live like that anyway?
I always liked "Who's the greater fool, the first or the one who follows?" They turn up everywhere.
This is profound:This Be the Verse
BY PHILIP LARKIN
They f*ck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were f*cked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.
