Our cat decided to supplement his diet with this today:

Look closely and you can see the neatly decapitated head at the bottom of the pic. Nice.

But what is it? It was (when whole) probably about 4 - 6 inches long, with tail in proportion. Those teeth on the head look pretty rat-like to me, as does the thick, ribbed tail.

So I'm calling small rat, but I'm open to offers.

Before you ask, it doesn't have an email address and holds no directorships I know of. And neither do I.

If that tail is hairless then it's a rat.

Rat.

My cats wouldn't do that - they don't like gravel, so they'd bring it inside and tuck in on the living room carpet.

Small rat - Full of disease so ideally don't pick it up with bare hands.

100%, it's a rat.

Rats are s.

Give your cat a lot of treats and attention tonight!

My dog caught a rat in our field a few weeks back, didn't kill it, just injured it enough so that it couldn't run away and sat there waiting for me to come and see. Good dog smile

Not all cats are like that in fact cats are quite peaceful creatures, I am fed up of them being portrayed as nutcases beheading animals.

Ace.

I'm well pleased with the cat for that effort then - that's the second one lately. All that was left of the last one was a severed tail on the patio...

And to think that some on here reckon cats are just useless hood-damaging creatures wink

It depends on how big those bits of stone are.

If its small pieces of gravel then rat.

If they are large stones/bolders we're doomed.

I'd say that used to be a Rat.

Leave the head, the cat will be back later to eat that. Ours for some reason would usually eat the head of the mouse/rat and leave the body for later.

I'd give it 24 hours, enough time to make sure it doesn't barf the lot up while sitting on your lap wink

He ate everything that's not in the picture.

The rest I scooped up with an old trowel, bagged up and put in the bin.

I'm curious to know which of the neighbours has a rats' nest in their garden - he's obviously found a kind of catty takeaway. It's normally the birds that cop it from him, so rats make a refreshing change...

Much better he goes for rats than birds. However hope he is quick with them, cats do get very badly bitten by rats, as long as he avoids the big uns!

Yes, occasionally my cats do something useful too wink

Actually, that one cleaned the compost heaps out of rats when we first moved in.
