Hi Ron,
That's very thoughtful of you to ask and I'm happy to say that Lucas is doing great, thanks. I'd go as far as to say that, aside from a few scars, to see and chat with him you would never guess what he's been through.
Mind you, he's a real handful! He never stops talking, is as stubborn as his Dad and has relentless energy so it's been hard work for us but my family helps us out a lot to take the pressure off.
He had an operation on his foot a few weeks ago which went well and hopefully was the last major thing to be done since the accident, so it's just relatively minor physio now, and monitoring his progress at school (which he enjoys and is doing great at).
There have been lots of questions about his Mum and Dad and what happened of course, but we've just been completely honest and open with him and that seems to have helped him understand and adapt to his new life.
Sadly we also lost my Dad to cancer at Christmas and we were worried this would set him back massively but after telling Lucas the news there was a pause as he absorbed it, before asking, "so who's going to make my cheese on toast now?".
We took that as a good sign that he understands mortality as well as any of us ever will.
Anyway, excuse the ramble. All in all, I'm pleased to report that we have a really happy little boy now.
Cheers,
Kevin
I would also add that Kevin had thought about bumping the thread, but decided not to in case we might get the idea he was attention seeking. What a great chap, Never met him but i would buy him a pint anytime he wants.
So lets all lift an internet pint to Lucas and Kevin and Mrs Kevin, and wish them all the bst in the world. Two very nice people.
Ron

I've just read all 15 pages of the thread, and I can only mirror what all else say, it is an amazing thing you and your wife have done for your nephew, and you have my complete respect.
Me too.I think the line about Kevin's wife giving up her job to be a mother to the boy was incredibly touching - an amazing woman.
A tragedy with a heartwarming conclusion - the boy's parents would be so incredibly proud of their family.
Very heartwarming, and a huge commitment from your wife especially, you are amazing people.
It has made me think about what would happen to our daughter should the worst happen to us. Without wishing to hijack the thread (happy to start another if this is not the place), but have others with children made provision for this in their wills? Just talking about it with my wife, there is not really any obvious choice for us sadly but we feel we need to make provision...
