Your paying for extra insurance and to guarantee it'll be delivered by 1.

Seriously sending anything valuable whether it be money, jewellery or important documents you have to use 'Special Delivery' NOT 'Recorded Delivery'
Special Deliveries are treated with more care than the crown jewels. Recorded delivery is just a way of getting another quid out of you.

It is like choosing the McCann's to look after your kids rather than Mary Poppins.

If you want something sent safely stop being so tight and pay 'Special Delivery'
Even then what's to stop Royal Mail doing what they did to someone earlier in the thread and saying "prove the contents"?

Same with me earlier this year after applying to the Home Office.

Some postie literally has my whole life and could be doing anything with it. Passport, my marriage cert, my grannies marriage cert, my birth cert, mums birth certs, grannies birth cert, pay slips, bank statements, letters from employers. They could be cloning my whole life and I can see it paining me sometime in the future.

I went as far as my local MP getting in contact with them and emailing watchdog as Royal Mail are a shower of ste.

Nothing back from them at all. Nothing to cover the cost of a replacement birth cert never mind passport and all the other documents they lost.
Why did you send all that stuff to the Home Office?

Applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain. Trust me, if i could have afforded to fly down and do it in person and in 1 day I would have and wish I had done it now. frown

I was going to return a pair of Grensons brogues to Selfridges by post but never got round to it. They're still in my hallway cupboard.

Just as well I didn't bother, I suppose!
To be honest Selfridges tried to wangle out of it as well , they kept repeating that I should have rang them to arrange collection , but they included a pre printed return label for return by post , as I kept repeating to them it wasn't a condition of return to have them collected , I insisted on a refund and left them to take it up with RM , however that was after threatening them to get the credit card company involved.

I assume that there are quite a few posties walking round in Grenson brogues ....

I'll not deal with Selfridges again after that episode either.

I sent something 2nd class signed mid May, never arrived and had to wait until 10th June to report it, I sent all the required info to them, they then sent me a letter 2 weeks later saying they have 30 days from the issue of the letter to investigate and respond to me. I waited 32 days and still didn't hear anything.

Called them up and the bloke said they believe they posted it but forgot to get a signature. They have sent a questionnaire to the addressee but he's not responded yet, I'm not surprised he's got his money (I refunded 10th June) and probably the goods too. I'm now waiting another 10 days until Royal Mail have made their mind up if they delivered it or not. If they decide they have that's is as far as they are concerned.
Received a cheque today for the maximum compensation of £50, sadly the item was worth more than that but I didn't go for extra insurance but at least it's not a total loss.
