Hello PH super sleuths. I have a mission for you. Should you choose to accept it...

The neighbor of my Ex, but more importantly of my 17 year old daughter, back home in the UK is causing a bit of aggro. Upsetting my daughter, disrupting her during exams and disrespecting privacy. Being 3500 miles away makes it difficult for me to go around and knock on his door but I would love to be able to persuade him to back the fook up.

This is where you come in.

How would I go about digging into his life, trying to find leverage?

A Bit of backround checking reveals that he is about 55-60, single, likes to smoke pot, listens to techno music, is a bit of a computer geek and gamer. Has a Phd in Biology and works as a tech in the local university. But that's all I can find. I need better than this frown I can't just shout at him 'hey weird weed smoking guy, leave my daughter alone'. Doesn't have much bite.

How do I dig down to the good stuff?

Why do you think unearthing stuff on him and then confronting him with it is going to make your daughter's life easier?

And are you going to shout it to him from 3500 miles away?

Hasn't your ex got a big boyfriend/other half who could have a word?

I'm confused at his age and your daughters age. Did you say he was her ex and he's 55-60? And shes 17? yikes

It's not that hard to understand, is it?

Can't see how it would benifit you OP, unless you goner send him a strongly worded Email with all the dirt you have on him.

Behaving in a manner a 17 year old finds odd.

This, he might be like that PHer who had a garage full of the stuff for 'personal use'.

He has been repeatedly asked to be a bit nicer; turn the music down a bit so they can sleep (especially during exam time), not cut the boundary hedge between the properties to such an extent that their privacy is compromised by it having huge holes in it and generally not be such a turd.

He is now doing everything he can to be a turd.

General area is Aber. North Wales.

And yes, a strongly worded phone call revealing knowlege of (insert past faux pas here) and telling him to cease the turdage will be first on the agenda. Next would be a quick turn-around flight ticket and the associated VBRJ.

You only have to see him to understand that everything he does is a bit odd to a 17 yr old!

You know that lecturer that the PH pitchfork mob burnt at the stake for looking a bit odd at the time of the Yates Murder.....he looks like that but skinny.

Ergo, must be a weirdo.

Sounds to me as if the more you 'have a go at him' asking him not to do things the more he's going to do it.
Unless he's actually being a 'nuisance' by playing loud music or cutting hedges that aren't his, thereby causing damage to someone elses property - there isn't a lot you can do.
The worlds full of 'turds' but we have to live and let live.

Post the 17 year old some ear plugs, and suggest that what-ever it is she likes do in the garden that she feels she doesn't want the neighbour to see.....she stops doing. Or that your ex looses a tiny amount of lawn by erecting a bababoo/wicker screen a few inches inside her side of the boundary for privacy.

Then forget it, grow up, and move on.

( If she's doing something like sunbathing in the garden remember your PH chums and post a pic. )

Can't find a FaceBook profile, he really doesn't look the type to have any friends to make it worth his while signing-up.

Could just be an old git doing old git stuff? ie, once he's realised he is annoying you, it becomes his daily entertainment? I'd stick to a routine of being nice and asking him to help out during the exam period, likely to get far better results.
