I have sold a pair of roof bars on a popular internet website. I used their "suggested" postage costs of £16.

Now I have come to send the thing off, I can't find anyone who will deliver this parcel for anywhere near £16.

It is 10KG, and measures 180cm long (and is <40cm x 40cm high/wide). Everyone seems to have a max length of 150cm.

Any ideas anyone?

They are going from Fife to nr Stafford, if it makes any difference.

Thanks.

If you were local to me I could TNT them for £8+VAT - but it will be a lot dearer via a 3rd party collection etc.

Looks like you can use City Link and other carriers without an account as advertised on Ebay, maybe of use to you:

Interparcel.com.

It's your 40cm x 40cm that's making it expensive.

25*25*180 gets it delivered by UPS for £15 via interparcel.

I had a longbow posted to me after I had it repaired, that was 190cm long, but not as heavy as the roof bars, will see if I can find out who delivered the bow.

A mate sent someone a plastic sword in the post and it worked out cheaper to put it diagonally across a big box than sent it in a long narrow box as that as it reduced the longest dimension (eg 75x75x75 instead of 100x20x20). Crazy

Parcelforce take up to 3m and 30kg but buy the postage through ebay or a parcel site as it's cheaper than going directly to them.

When I opened this topic, I was hoping it was going to be about sending a snake in rigor.

Parcel2Go shipped my 20kg, 175x40x20 snowboard bag to London from Belfast for less than 20 quid. Don't know why they're so dear for you. frown
