This came up on another forum and people who I had classed as very sensible had a good "world perspective" all piled in with "ghost stories" and believed in them.

This reminded me of a chap I used to work with who again was very straight laced normal but absolutely believed in ghosts after an "incident".

I'm not after mocking the believers but just trying to get a handle on what percentage of people believe in them and why.

Also if you believe in ghosts do you have to believe in a god?

I'll start the ball rolling with I don't believe in them and have no ghost stories to tell.

There was a long thread on this subject about a year ago - not a call for repost as I love ghost stories and we have new members no so probably some more tales - but it had some interesting tales on it. Well worth a read.

Personally, I'm undecided. My parents have some pretty convincing first hand experience, but as a scientist I remain sceptical due to a lack of scientific evidence. I keep an open mind though.

I used to get rocked to sleep. Not bad considering there was only me in the room.

Great thread!

I believe in "ghosts" or at least all thing spiritual. I don't believe in any god.

Perhaps time isn't linear, and what people think of as 'ghosts' are in fact bubbles in it.

Personally, I'd find this easier to believe than quasi-religious ideas of the 'undead'.

Belief in an afterlife, whether here as ghosts or in some other realm, is a very beguiling concept as evidenced by the number of religions and other stories that arise around the world.

People like fantasies, people like to be scared, people enjoy stories, some people attribute a large amount of meaning to particular stories.

About 2 weeks ago this small figure in white- almost like a sheet- knocked on the door and asked for some sweets.

It was really weird- how can a ghost ring a doorbell, and why would a ghost want sweets?

Clearley, the paranormal. Anyone got Yvette Fieldings phone number (and its not just because she owns several Astons and was on Blue Peter....)??

No because they don't exist.

Stories? Heard loads about ghosts and they are exactly that... stories, made-up stories.

I'm with Jon Tickle on this.

Whenever I find out anyone is religious or believes in this kind of st, I can't help but lower my estimation of their mental capacity.
