I had an idea in the pub last night - where all the best ideas originate. Would any PHers be interested in a visit to an army Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit based at RAF Northolt in west London?

I was thinking the format could be a presentation on what we do and bombs etc, then a kit demonstration where you get to play with robots and weapons etc. It may be possible to do a small explosive demonstration - but that will require special permission from some RAF types. It may also be possible to visit a preserved WW2 fighter control room. Finally we could adjourn to the Sergeant's Mess bar where its £1 a pint. All of this for a small donation - £10 maybe - for Help For Heroes and the Royal British Legion.

If we do the explosive demo it will probably be some time in the new year, but if we skip that part then it can be oprganised in about 5 minutes. So, anyone interested?

Sounds cool. A few thoughts though: Definitely need to blow something up and £10 is too cheap given the fact it's for a good charity.

Could we blow up CVMs caravan, now I would pay good money to see that biggrin

Sounds good, would be best if it involved blowing stuff up!
How many people could you allow to attend?

I think we could accomodate up to thirty but twenty might be more manageable. People would be welcome to contribute more if they so wished!

I'm off to Northern Ireland on Monday for ten days but I'll speak to the RAF safety dudes about getting a temporary licence for the demo when I get back. It shouldn't be too much of a drama.

For sure - as it's for such a good cause please make it at least £25 a head.

Any chance of organising a charity auction of some of the kit?!

Also, tube stations (Ruislip Gardens and South Ruislip) are just down the road and its just off the A40 so its really easy to get to.
