Discussion
Apologies for the Daily Heil link but thought this worth sharing - this guy does various pencil drawings and is quite handy with it.

Yes its a skill - no, its not very creative.
Your gallery would look like a photography exhibition.
So tell me steamer, what is your idea of creative. I could happily spend an afternoon walking round a gallery looking at these pictures and marveling at the creative genius that can take a pencil and create images like these.Your gallery would look like a photography exhibition.
Really amazing.
A friend of ours recently gave us a pencil drawing of our son as a gift which were pretty impressed with. She is not a professional, she does it as hobby when she has the spare time.
Bear in mind the photo of the drawing is not the best as it is framed and there is some reflection from the glass.

Don't get me wrong here - he is a master with a pencil, and I love art / design in whatever form it takes.. although this for me does'nt really cover 'design' - its 'very realistically reproducing photographs'.
Agree. It's something that one autistic kid at my shcool used to do all the time. It is a talent, borne of insane ability to scrutinise, concentrate, and stick to a gameplanm. But it's not imaginative, or conceptually groundbreaking. I think this type of work became unfashionable in art ever since photography was invented- people no longer needed art to be representative of reality. But its nice to admire someone who still sticks to a plan and pursues it to make a statement.

My thoughts too. Why spend 5k on what could be done in 2 minutes, with a digital camera and printer. I was always taught (at primary school level) that drawing and painting should not be a 100% reproduction of the model, but an interpretation, so it at least looks like a painting or drawing. Your gallery would look like a photography exhibition.
This minutia detailed drawing sort of defeats the whole purpose, if you ask me.
