Don't need an artificially created event driven my commerce to encourage me to make a token gesture.

I buy and do things spontaneously many times through the year.

Thankfully my wife is also of the opinion that's it's another commercial event, so we never bothered with it.

I was trying to do the right thing but paying more attention to my OH than the dog for once. So I made her proper coffee, and took it up to bed on a tray with the paper and daffodil in a little vase.

While the dog took a piss on the sofa downstairs.

Every year the same, A bouquet of carnations/chrysanths, a couple of days before Valentine's with the cheesy line "I love you every day, not just the 14th".
The flowers are much cheaper, they're for her not for Valentines, so the smarty points are doubled.
They'll still be alive on Valentines, so you've met your obligations, and she gets to brag all over bloody Facebook about how her man's so romantic.
Win-win for me.
