I place a bid on EBay for a book a week ago.

I get outbid yesterday (auction due to end today), I then order the book from Amazon.

This morning - about 1hr & 10mins before the auction closes - the person selling the book cancels the highest bidder's bid saying "buyer has not paid for previous items from me" and therefore my previous bid is now the highest bid again.

I dont think I should have to now buy the book (should I win the auction), what does PH think?

I think, according to the terms and conditions on ebay, that you're bid is now the highest and therefore stands.

Can you not retract your bid?
Not this close to the finish.

To be fair the guy has mailed me and said its cool, so its not a problem any more.

I buy loads from ebay through work and thats never happened. Normally you get a second chance offer because the seller has bumped the bids up as already mentioned.
Thats what I was going to say, I knew they done 'Second Chance' things, but not 'Ah they deleted their bid so now you must pay it'.
I think the 2nd chance offer only applies if the winning bidder pulls out after the end of the auction.

In the 3 minutes since your OP? Is your first immediate thought with everything to post it on PH?
No. In the 4 mins since my OP.

No, only if its something I've literally just posted about.

Eh?
The only reason I posted so quickly about that was that I had literally just started a thread on the subject.
