Monogram shirts

Following on from the Are you a cufflink wearer? thread.

If you are wearer of smart tailored shirts, is it appropriate to have an embroidered monogram these days? If so, where is the best place for it; breast, cuff or above beltline?

By monogram I mean discreet (half-inch or less), initials only in complimentary thread. Large, full names/words in contrasting thread are garish and always inappropriate IMHO.

Thoughts?
