Bit of an odd one here.

I'm after a winter jacket and have made a bit of a 'shortlist'. Ideally something I can get a few years wear out of. I don't mind paying good money for a good jacket the will last. The usual offerings from Barbour, Belstaff, North Face don't tickle my fancy.

I don't know too much about (designer) clothes and have never really looked at this type of thing before.

I was in a local menswear shop at the weekend and found a great Stone Island jacket for half the RRP. I assume it is last seasons (no biggy for me). Tried it on, it felt great. Lovely materials and styling.

I mentioned it to a few mates who seem to know a little bit about menswear, or at least I think they do. We were discussing it and the general consensus was "great brand, great clothing but too much baggage attached to the name".

I had considered this but didn't know it was so widely thought. By "baggage" I assume they mean the association with football violence and hooliganism.

I guess my question is, are these jackets only for hoodlums and weekend warriors or do people who just like a nice piece of clothing wera them?

It will generally be worn to and from work and occasionally on a weekend if I leave the house in the Winter months. I wouldn't be wearing it every weekend on the terraces or to the pub on a Saturday.

If it will 'provoke trouble' with my peers everytime I wear it, I'll just leave it. It's a jacket at the end of the day, not an open invitation for a rumble in the jungle.

Thanks,

Stone Island, Armani Jeans, Adidas Samba.

Is it 1989?
The same could be said about any brand that has been around for 30+ years.

Thanks for your input though.

Let's assimilate and re-direct this thread.

Any recommendations from the nay-sayers out there?

As previous, 'farm / country wear' isn't my thing and everyone wears it round here.

My local on a weekend is a sea of quilted jackets.
