i am clueless, can anyone help?

a guy at work is getting married. actually he is already legally married [he went over to india last month to sort that part out] but is flying back next friday to perform the ceremony and enjoy the celebrations etc. he's just invited me to 'tea' next wednesday with the rest of the guys - food & drinks etc., no idea if any of it will be ceremonial.

i have no clue as to his religion but i will try and find out if that makes a difference. i'd like to get him a gift as he is our office technogeek and has helped me out of many a deep hole.

is there a traditional gift/offering that would go down well? he's teetotal and hasn't passed his test which is the limit of my bloke present buying abilities. i haven't met his wife yet.

Just get him something blokey... He will probably be sick of 'ethnic' stuff by now. If he's into cars how about track day vouchers? or a red letter day?
by "hasn't passed his test" i mean he's had 4-5 lessons so far.

no tradition makes it easier, i'm going to york at the weekend so i'm bound to find something. will see if there's a kitty going, but good to know we aren't limited to something made of tissue paper and gold lame.

Have a whip round and present him with a voucher of some kind?
Perhaps a voucher for a holiday in South Africa?

btw, he's only been in the uk a few years and is quite reserved, hence thinking the traditional route may go down well.

a second wife? girls are cheap in doncaster.
