I've been having sharp pains in my left hand side when walking, and a clicking noise when I layed down.

By chance got an emergency doctor's appointment today, sent to the hospital for chest Xrays and a blood test. 10 minutes later I'm sent to A&E to be told I've got a collapsed lung

Had a load of air sucked out through a tube in my chest, which got rid of most of it. The doctor wanted me to stay for 48 hours but the consultant said I could go home on the condition that if it started again I go straight back to A&E immediately.

Apparently if I'd left it much longer the other one could have collapsed too and I'd have been in BIG trouble

I've just got back now, big patch on my chest, fair bit of blood and stuff and very sore

Apparently it can spontaneously happen to young, tall, thin men

Going to take it pretty easy for a bit...

Crickey. Don't go staying in an empty house for a while. Best to have people about and a phone to hand.

glad to hear you found it in time! It is really scary to see the amount of collapsed lungs happening around lately.

Get well soon!

I know where your head is at.

Between 13 and 10 years ago, my lungs collapsed 4 times. Twice each side.

A Pneumophorax & spontaneous pneumothorax I believe.

Bum deal squire!

First time it went I was walking round town. Thought I was having a heart attack. When I got to the doctor, he said "Oh....nothing to worry about, your lung has collapsed".

Yeah, right, nothing to worry about.

That time, it inflated on its own and off I went after 2 days in ozzy.

Unfortunately, the few times it happened after that, I was'nt as lucky.

Ended up in hospital for a two month stint after they f*****d up the operation. The lung got infected and filled with puss.

Had to have the lung cut open and cleaned out and I have a nice 15 inch scar to prove it.

(This came in handy on holiday. A couple of girls asked where my scar came from, so I told them I got bitten by a shark whilst diving in Australia. This little lie worked a treat!)

I basically lived and survived on drugs for 2 months and found it quite pleasureable in a perverse way!

BUT, here I am, 10 years on. Enjoying life on Pistonheads.

Good luck with your recovery mate!

Try to enjoy the rest.

Edited to say.... It is immensely rare for an operation to go wrong as it did in my case. There were only complications because I tried to do it myself with a knitting needle, some accelerator cable and a set of jump leads.
