4 Weeks till holiday.

My growth is being stunted purely by not having a spotter. I feel im ready to go up to 26kg dumbell bench press, but darent because it could all go horribly wrong and nobody is there to assist!

Training 4-6 times a week.

Chris
Well im now comfortably on to 26's. All other excercises are increasing too so very happy with that.

I said i wanted to be onto 28's before holiday in 2 weeks time, so techincally im on schedule! Still no training partner, so still not really pushing it as hard as i could be because of this.

Going to need some more protien shake soon, i need low cals and low carbs with High Protein intake, any suggestions?

Currently on USN GF-1 and really liking the taste.

Try one-hand DB bench press. Tis a bit weird at first but because you have a spare hand, you can spot yourself.

Yeah spot yourself.
Don't do with your hand what Hoofy does. Bit unhygienic, that, in a gym.

I'm thinking the other hand would be holding a DB so you could alternate. Wouldn't you fall off the bench if you didn't? Is this another false legs/real feet post?

On the subject of doing stupid things in the gym...

...earlier this week I was on a cross-trainer. Took my hands off the... handles... and let them fall naturally at my sides, and then closed my eyes.

Couldn't stop myself from falling/pitching off.

Dear Deirdre... am I normal?

No, it's tricky but doable. My gym buddy does it with 40kg DBs. Just one. In one hand. Then switch hands. Really hits the core! Wasn't it AnonSS who recommended it? Where is he?

I think he did. I've done it in the past. It's a bit like a waiter's walk, but no pressure on the spine/legs.
He felt he was being too argumentative and took himself out of the chat.

Oh right. That rings a bell actually.

Yeah, I do waiter's walks, too. Are WWs bad then?

None in themselves. Just in case anyone had any ankle issues or other issues, single arm DB press can give the same benefit for the core muscles.

I'm sure I'm going to regret this fairly shortly but I'm determined to shift a bit of weight over the next few months and have decided that I will hold myself accountable to you guys here.

As of this morning, I stand just over 6 foot and weigh 96kg. Not much I can do about the height but as you can see from the pic below (I'm really going to regret that...) something needs to be done about the man-boobs and gut.

I'm fairly fit so I'm hoping that with a bit of discipline and some sensible training, I can get below 90kg in time for my birthday/anniversary holiday in mid-July.

I'll check back in with an update once a week on how I'm getting on. Wish me luck, I'm now off to renew my membership of the cheapy £10 per month gym....

You know what needs doing.

Remember to check your food intake. Don't be fooled into thinking eating healthily will automatically result in weight loss, though. Pick up heavy lumps of metal (compound work). Run if you can stand it.

I suppose it's a form of motivation. Buy clothes you can barely fit into and train until you can comfortably wear them!

Those shorts are about 7 years old. They used to fit!

Anyone watched Generation Iron?

I watched it this afternoon, very good! Not sure its as good as Pumping Iron but definitely enjoyable.

Phil Heath looks insanely good on it, bigger than he does in photos.

I'd say it was a finishing exercise or additional lift after the heavy stuff only. If your buddy's lifting 40s one arm for good reps he must be huge. What does he press normally? 50s? 60s?

We only have up to 40s. laugh

I suspect he could do 2 x 50kg DB presses. He is pretty big. Despite him only having shakes. Must be something in the shakes. We eat similar, started at the same time, do very similar routines. He does drink more than me.

He must be on steroids. hehe
