PH 2014 Goals, Progress & Transformations Thread
Discussion
Anyone been following the progress of Dave Crossland?
I follow him on FB and his thread on UK-M, he has had a film made about his journey to become "a freak".
No matter what your views are on steroid use, I think it will be a very interesting watch.

I'm sure it's the same lad that trains in maloneys in Huddersfield. I follow him on FB and his thread on UK-M, he has had a film made about his journey to become "a freak".

I agree with your statement as well, he's done really well!
^haha
I suspect he could do 2 x 50kg DB presses. He is pretty big. Despite him only having shakes. Must be something in the shakes. We eat similar, started at the same time, do very similar routines. He does drink more than me.
He must be on steroids.A couple of years ago I was able to bench 40kg dumbbells and have never been that big. Slowly working my way back up to it!

I'd say it was a finishing exercise or additional lift after the heavy stuff only. If your buddy's lifting 40s one arm for good reps he must be huge. What does he press normally? 50s? 60s?

I'm sure I'm going to regret this fairly shortly but I'm determined to shift a bit of weight over the next few months and have decided that I will hold myself accountable to you guys here.
As of this morning, I stand just over 6 foot and weigh 96kg. Not much I can do about the height but as you can see from the pic below (I'm really going to regret that...) something needs to be done about the man-boobs and gut.
I'm fairly fit so I'm hoping that with a bit of discipline and some sensible training, I can get below 90kg in time for my birthday/anniversary holiday in mid-July.
I'll check back in with an update once a week on how I'm getting on. Wish me luck, I'm now off to renew my membership of the cheapy £10 per month gym....
I'm not going to punish you all with another picture this week but week 1 progress has been ok with weight this morning down to 94kg. Let's hope I can keep that rate of loss going for a few more week...As of this morning, I stand just over 6 foot and weigh 96kg. Well done. However I think you've misunderstood somewhat. The discussion concerns pressing a 40kg dumbbell for reps with one arm. Given the exercise is a finisher, i.e., you've done all your heavy lifts first, my point was what given the awkwardness involved not falling off the bench you wouldn't be able to lift as much so what might be the correlation be between a one arm press and proper press. 40kg one arm = 50/60 kg press?Hoofy said:

He can do 75kg bench. I know this because that is all there is in the gym. He used to do one arm 40kg as a main exercise. Then he did both with a spotter. Then he did both without needing a spotter.
As for size, I don't think he is much bigger since then (about a year ago?).
Ive never tried a 1 arm press, sounds strange! Never seen it tried either.
On related note, I managed 5 reps with the 45kg dumbbells last week, needed a hand getting them up to start position though! And this week managed 6 reps on bar with 100 kg, with no spotter. Impressed my strength is going up.
Still not putting any weight on though!

So if he can lift nearly double for a flat press it shows how awkward the single arm is. It also shows it's waay to light for anything but a finishing exercise. I've never done it, and I won't be trying it either. On a chest day I'll work chest, not chest, back, core, glutes, legs etc etc. Sit up a bit and add a turning movement and you've got an abs exercise!

True. I prefer to use it because my shoulder is dodgy so I can spot myself. I could dump the dumbbell if you pay for replacement floorboards. Chaps: weight gain powders. Who should/shouldn't use them? What's their purpose?
My son has (finally) decided to get himself fit and goes to the gym to do weight training with his mates.
He's 21, 6'3" and a proper lanky beanpole.
From my perspective - of trying to simultaneously build muscle and LOSE weight - I'd kill to be able to build muscle on a thin physique; six pack here I come!
If I were him, I'd just use whey protein on top of his normal diet (which isn't too bad, in fairness) to support muscle growth. He insists that he needs more weight too though.
He doesn't want to be a Mr Olympia contender, just have a decent physique, so do you think that bulking powders play a role in that for skinny yoofs?
Learn me up!

Buggered if you do exercise, buggered if you don't. Oh well, I'm off with the dogs on the moors. Probably twist an ankle
Pretty much. These days, I always joke, "And doctors say you're supposed to do more exercise." Shin splints, grazed shins, hurts to sit down, hurts to stand up, grazed knee, dodgy elbow, dodgy shoulders. I should just sit in my couch and eat. At least I'd just have to worry about a dodgy heart.

Just eat lots of meat. And carbs. And be consistent with training. Probably ignore his friends' advice or he'll just spend 2 hours in the squat rack curling light dumbbells while texting each other.
