I had a quick tour of a gym tonight.
Are gyms always full of angry people?
Horrible.
I'll stick with my home gym and stay happy, don't want that angry st rubbing off on me.
Depends on the gym.

Steroid users are actually angry.
Some people look angry but are really just focused (i am guilty of this at times).

Dont mix the two up smile

I have my 15 year old sister currently training in 'my' gym. I wrote her a diet plan and workout programme. I made her squat last night and she didn't seem to hate it too much which I guess is a start. She plays a lot of hockey so is pretty athletic, although her diet is very poor. I'm treating her as my project so it will be interesting to see how we get on!

Cool. So she's not worried about "getting too bulky". Mind you, I suppose you can burn a few kcals by arguing over how women won't bulk up.

I've told her that only happens to girls who use steroids. Not 100% true but if it will put her mind at ease and not put her off training then I'm willing to go along with it.

My normal time, Hoofy, just after the morning school run so about 9am.

It's a local authority Active place but quite new, the whole gym equipment was renewed last year and my membership includes free swimming. Has got quite rammed in the past but I was baffled at the space in there yesterday.

Probably be back to normal tomorrow when I return.

I have only one compaint about my gym and that is one individual. He is without a doubt the most annoying fk I have ever come across in the gym.

He's been going for at least 2 years doing weights and has not put on any size in that time, he is one of the skinniest people I've seen in a gym. That per se isn't what annoys me, it's the fact he takes fking ages to do any single exercise, insists on 10 minute rests between every set and generally puts as little effort as possible into his workout. I respect that that's his choice but it's plain ignorant when he insists on hogging machines for literally 15 minutes to do 3 sets because of it. Last night I did 10 sets of 10 squats in the time it took him to do 3 sets of leg presses, he spent most of the time lying on a bench next to the machine.

But all the above could be forgiven if it wasn't for the fking noises he makes when he lifts. It's the most stupid, pathetic fked up whine I've ever heard despite the fact he's putting no effort in and lifting no weight. And it constantly ruins people's workouts because everyone in the gym ends up laughing at how fking stupid he sounds. Imgaine someone doing lat pull downs with 10kg and groaning like a the world's loudest female pornstar with every rep!!

?

(Not you - him!)

His problem is likely that he just doesn't eat enough.

Undoubtedly a combination of that and the fact he never pushes himself in the slightest. I've never seen him sweat, he has no plan and might do tricep push downs followed by leg press, his technique is worryingly bad on some exercises and I don't think I've ever seen him increase the weight he lifts.

When i do weights say 3 sets of 8 reps, what do you do in between reps?

I feel awkward just sitting there for a minute so sometimes i superset things if possible or should i just take my 1 min rest between sets as at the end of the day it's only 3 mins i'm hogging the bench not doing anything.

For the 2 x 1 minutes I just hog the bench/machine. What else are you going to do?

Either superset so say bench press/squat or lat pull downs/shoulder press or do pyramids and start high weight low rep and work my way down until i can't push anymore.

yeah if nobody else is lurking, in a ideal world i'd ask if i can work between somebody else's sets but gyms aren't ideal worlds, there full of headphone wearing dudes with too much attitude to actually talk.

People who want to talk to me are a Gym Moans entry in themselves. Dissuading them is partly what the headphones are for. wink

Nope, I'm happy too. Met some interesting people down the gym and though I wouldn't go as far as to call them friends, I'd certainly have a coffee with them.
