One thing I'm not looking forward to, my partner and all his siblings were 10lb plus and his neice & nephew were big at birth. they're a tall family as well all at 6' plus apart from his sister.
a moderately useful piece of information- Boys are always taller than their mothers! Mrs P is 5ft10, her brother is 6ft5 and 6ft2. All my borterhs and sisters were 9.5lb+.

20 week scan yesterday. All looking good, a very active baby and at the upper limit of the growth range for this age.

Currently weighing in at 15oz and it's a boy. Other half is pleased as he can teach him about rugby and building cars hehe

Great to hear! You are about a week and a half behind me! My scan showed a very active sprog (12 weeks was the same) but as yet I haven't felt it.

All healthy, didn't get approx weight though, but as nurse couldn't see full placenta outline, they want me back for a 34 week scan. I'm guessing this means it's not that serious otherwise they would have me in sooner.

Really now starting to hit home that it's real  and we're putting the sensible hat on and looking at car seats later.

Nice to hear girls. Time is going to fly so enjoy your pregnancies.

My little man is 8 weeks old today. Where has the time gone?

I get lovely smiles and laughs when he wakes from a sleep.
Babies develop and grow so fast you will not believe it.

Too right. HalfPints mk1 will be 4 in a month's time, and mk2 turned 2 a few months ago.
Feels like just the other day when I was in hospital holding them for the first time.

I'm back at 34 weeks as well just to ensure the placenta is still doing it's job and they boy is growing and happy.

I've also got a glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks but this is likely to be brought forward as I already have sugar in my urine.

I have the joys of an oral glucose tolerance test tomorrow for gestational diabetes.

We've just found out this morning that my partners cancer has spread to his lymph nodes. It's not a good start to the week and not the news we wanted to hear. We currently don't know how far it's gone but it's currently behind his ear/neck. Scans over the next week or two and then surgery depending on what they find.

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear that (on both counts). Hope that things pan out OK for you both.

Bit of a traumantic week for us last week. Our son has been having very bad issues with gas so we have tried several formulas and this did help but it was still painful. We then found a product called gripe water which seemed to help. Last Thursady we gave it to him and he did not swallow. He then breathed it in and choked. He stopped breathing and went blue and totally limp. I had to resusitate him twice to get him breathing properly but he was still not responding to us as he normally would. We tried everything that would normally piss him off and he didn't make a sound so jumped into the car and got him to the ER. After lots of testing he was given the all clear to come home with us and was back to his usual self.

While Liam was not breathing it was like holding a dead child. An experience i never want to have again. I am not sure what we would have done if I had not been on the CPR course for work. I remained totally calm while he was not breathing and went through the motions. My wife panicked and did not know what to do so now she is scared if it happens again that he will die. She is signing up for the first course we can get her on.

As for the gas.......

I beleive that 99% of the time people say their child has "Colic" it is due to gas. If your child is screaming try different formulas. Liam can not take breat milk as he throws it up immediately. We tried several formulas including the super expensive Similac Alimentum and that was the worst by far. He would have solid white poos that looked like chalk. Similac Sensitive is where we ended and it seems to be solving the issue.

Jesus that is a terrifying experience.

Did the ER say why it had happened? I thought gripe water was a thing of the past as I have heard alot of mum's asking where to get it.

I am still in the "checking she is breathing" stage, and even after a section am amazed how quick I can launch myself out of my bed if I hear a strange noise coming from the cot through the night. I use cow and gate formula and she is one farty pants baby that is for sure!

I had never heard of gripe water before but while I was stood in the chemist looking for ideas on my phone it came up. I'm in the US so availibility may be different back in the UK. I do know that gripe water my mother used had alcohol in it and this stuff does not.

The ER were not that informative just saying that it was a one off and caused by Liam breathing insted of swallowing. They think that Liam is used to the consistency of formula and so he did not realise the gripe water was in his mouth. He was also a crying at the time we gave it to him which we have done before because normally he is calmed just be drinking something. This time he was too worked up to notice it. My wife feels very guilty over the whole thing but I say we should be thanklful he is OK and learn from our mistakes.

Just this morning I poked Liam before I went to work just to see him twitch. I'm not an abusive parent, honest! It's just to confirm he is OK.

I think the thought process went along these lines. Liam went from normal to blue in seconds. I had to made sure he was breathing fine before we did anything. Once he was breathing he looked fine it was just that normally he would be crying and he was not now. Also, I'm very close to the hospital anyway so I'm sure I got him to the hospital quicker than an Ambulance would have been able to get to me. I know you are not being critical and our response was not perfect but we got him through it. For this I feel lucky and I would recommend everyone with kids have a plan so that you do not have to think on your feet in an emergency.

My route to the hospital goes down one of the main straights from the 2013 NYC Grand Prix. I may have set a good qualifying time the speed I went down there

Clear on the diabetes front thankfully. The Glucose drink is quite revolting.

Just need to concentrate on my OH now and waiting for the scans to come through to see the extent of how far the cancer has spread.

Sorry to hear about all the bad news and issues frown

My son, Lok, was born last Thursday weighing 7lbs 6 ounces

It wasn't the most fun of births - I had to have a c-section as I'm quite little and he was getting too large for me. Firstly, they had problems with the cannula - could get the veins up but couldn't get the cannula in so I looked like I'd been attacked by a hedgehog.

I had problems with my first c-section as they started cutting into me before the spinal had taken, so I warned the anaesthetists this time and they were very good - although they were surprised at quite how long it took for the spinal to take effect and the fact I retained the use of my legs even when the spinal had taken.

Unfortunately, the spinal completely wore off as they started to stitch me up. I can't explain the pain. Thankfully, the anaesthetists realised I was crying through pain and not happiness and promptly injected me with painkillers. They then decided this wasn't good enough and completely knocked me out - and that in itself is not something I ever want to experience again.

It has been a really frustrating experience. The midwives keep forgetting about us - I didn't get any painkillers or anti-swelling drugs after the operation, and they lost all our details so we didn't get any home visits. It probably doesn't help that I still feel like I've been hit by a bus but I'm hoping that as we settle into a better routine and the iron tablets start to kick in (I lost quite a lot of blood during the op), I'll start to have a bit more energy!

Despite all the issues, it has been 100% worth it - we are both over the moon with our little boy smile
