DangerousB, you must be an elite athlete?

At this time of the year (base/build time), I'll average about 50km running, 250km cycling and about 12km swimming a week.
Bloody hell. Do you have time to eat, sleep or work? Interested to know what your body composition is? Very lean, presumably?
I'll be doing considerably more than that during peak phases and it's only during those times that it feels like I'm doing nothing else but eat, sleep, work and train . . . this time of the year is a breeze by comparison.
My body composition is probably what you'd expect I guess - I eat a huge amount of food, but as my mum and girlfriend continually tell me "You don't pay for feeding"

Best cardio you can do in a gym is from personal experience rowing.....it's low impact and gives you a good "all over" work out. You see plenty of people doing 30 or 60 min runs but very few people even doing 20 mins on a rowing machine. There's a reason for that......
Yeah, it's the most boring exercise ever.dangerousB said:
It's really not that difficult to get that sort of mileage done, even working 10 - 12 hours per day and having a decent social life. It may sound a lot, but it's not really.

Lucky you get free food, then! If I did that much training, I'd disappear with the amount of food I don't eat.I'll be doing considerably more than that during peak phases and it's only during those times that it feels like I'm doing nothing else but eat, sleep, work and train . . . this time of the year is a breeze by comparison.

I do a 1k row at the start of one of my circuits as I worry that if I do 2-3k I may not have the energy for the rest of the session. Kills my thighs too.I know one guy poo poo'd it but doing a 1k row at level 10 (C2 machine) in 3:30 does get my HR up so it must be of benefit to my overall fitness.

You run 10 miles in your lunch?
Sometimes. The running is done over 7 days. A 10 mile tempo run at lunchtime is just under an hour. It'll take me a while to get used to the cycling mileage though. In the past I've done 100 miles per week running fitted round a job (but no family or cycling back then).

What is powerlifting HIIT?
20s on, 10s off, pick any powerlifting move you fancy. Repeat for 20 minutes. Probably don't start with your usual 1RM weight. I personally like hang cleans. It feels like I've done a few too many warm up routes on a climbing wall after a 20 minute session.
