What method are people using for body fat calculation other than online tools (which I agree are finger in the air stuff at best).

I know theres a machine in the changing room at one of the Pure Gyms I go to supposedly measures it, think its a finger in a hole electric pulse thing.
Some calipers are the best way I think.

I Finish my 3rd week of the 2nd month later today and these are some observations I've made during the last few weeks:

1. First month seems hard for the first few days and then you get used to it to some extent (not saying it's easy - far from it but you get up to speed).
2. I didn't noticeably lose any weight until I started the 2nd month (started 11st 9lb and was 11st 8lb at end of first month. Now down to 11st 2lb after 3 weeks of month 2.
3. The first month routines all seem pretty easy to fit into my day. The second month routines are longer and when added to fit tests and cardio abs you are upto 1.5 hours which to me is a big big committment (still do it though!). I also find myself looking at the countdown timer and thinking 'I'm bloody knackered and still have 40 mins to go!!!'
4. Upper body stuff is really difficult and I struggle to finish several of the month 2 exercises - level 3 drills kill me. Lower body exercises are pretty manageable.
5. 'Recovery' days aren't! They're tough!
6. You sweat like never before - particularly on month 2.
7. I get a great sense of achievement finishing each session.
8. Don't eat before you do it! Made that mistake with chilli con carne about 1.5 hrs before I did Insanity and how I didn't puke is beyond me.

I'm not sure what I'll do when I finish it next week - maybe have a few days off and start it again. It's definitely made a difference to my physique - particularly my core/abs and shoulders and my cardio capacity.

Would I recommend? Yes, as others have said, it's tough but rewarding, although month 2 is a real test and a bit of a slog in parts.

Wish me luck, it starts today!

Always been fit, but retired from rugby at the age of 41 and no longer need to keep the bulk up. Unfortunately, also starting to get a bit of padding. I work on ships, so the fact that this doesn't require special kit or much room is an absolute godsend.

The difficult part will be maintaining progress when I'm back home. I'll just have to man up!

Hi all

some really motivating results on this thread and good to see genuine results pictures.

I started this on saturday after having the dvds for 2 months.

Start weight was 76.6kg, 5ft 7inches so BMI of 26.4.

1st Fit Test

Switch Kicks 84
Power Jacks 30
Power Knees 60
Power Jumps 22
Globe Jumps 7
Suicide Jumps 11
Push Up Jacks 13
Lower Plank Obliques 40

The first Polymetric Cardio Circuit was tough, really tough...in fact half way through i thought fk this but carried on, I cannot believe how drenched i was and I felt like I had been beaten up but this morning I feel great.

looking forward to doing Day 3 Cardio Power & Resistance later today.

I have changed the planner so my rest day is Thursday and thats when I play a friendly 45 minutes of fives.

I am a fussy eater so not following the diet plan but my eating is pretty healthy anyway.

Timed it well too as my last day is the day before I fly out on my summer vacation.

Just tried to do the fit test on this.
I'm 27, sit at a desk all day, and do no exercise whatsoever. I'm 5'10 and about 12 stone 11 - so overweight.

My results

Switch Kicks 75 (wow I'm pretty good at this)
Power Jacks 46 (going quite strong... I'm fitter than I thought!)
Power Knees 57 (this is a piece of piss)
Power Jumps 19 (oof my stomach hurts...)
Globe Jumps 3 (st I'm going to be sick) Paused DVD at this point and retched into the sink for 3/4 minutes
Suicide Jumps 11 (ok, I'm back into this)
Push Up Jacks 0 (I fell onto my face and couldn't push myself up, even with Shaun shouting "I know you can do it)
Lower Plank Obliques 26

I couldn't stand during the warm down - one hour later and my legs are still shaking.

Just about to do day 2 of the actual training later. Calves, arse cheeks, hamstrings all protesting after yesterday and stairs are an issue. I'm not convinced that his stretches are as effective as the stretches I've used historically.

However, one of the guys I'm working with at the mo has gone through the Insanity program (and P90X) and raves about it. He's evilly taunting me about what comes next, but pushing me to stick with the program. He's in good shape, if over 10 years younger than me, so I'm optimistic about the results.

Today is my first rest day.

Have actually enjoyed it - it does feel like i'm gaining something.

Calves hurt alot for the first few days - only ache a little today, abs / stomach have been aching today for the first time also.

Really looking forward to fit test next week just to see if it is having an effect.

I'm not following his diet plan but am 5/2 fasting at the same time.

Re-starting from week 1 now that I actually have the time to dedicate to it.

Results from initial endeavour over 2 weeks and a paltry 5 sessions, lost 3.1kg / 6.8lb

Did the first real day yesterday. Had to skip a couple of the sets completely, legs had completely given up.

Definitely sticking with it, but I ache today!

Finished day 3 about 20 minutes ago. I had eaten about an hour and half before hand, and doing the globe jumps was making my stomach go into knots/cramps - so I switched this out for high knees each time instead.

Felt like I was really pushing today, and was definitely sweating. Arms and legs are shaking like a stting dog now!

I started insanity on Monday.

Fit test results

Switch Kicks 80
Power Jacks 45
Power Knees 74
Power Jumps 25
Globe Jumps 7 - At this point I was broken
Suicide Jumps 13 - I really wanted to be sick after these.
Push Up Jacks 14
Lower Plank Obliques 32

I can't believe how difficult I found just doing the fit test.

Walking up stairs on Tuesday was an issue, and playing 18 holes of golf in the evening was torture. That said I did shoot my best score of the year.

I did the first training session last night. This is seriously hard work. I was blowing after the warm up. My legs were all but done after the first set of exercises and by the end of the session I had nothing left.

I struggled to do the warm down and stretches but I stuck with it. I'm glad I did as I don't ache as much as I thought I would this morning.

I actually quite enjoyed doing it once I got over the fact I was doing a workout DVD in my front room. It's far more enjoyable than going out for a run?

Yup - I'm enjoying the fact that it takes up 40 min or so of my life, I can do it in my lounge, I don't have to go to the gym or anything else.

The disruption to my life is minimal but it still feels like i'm doing some good.

The one excercise that i'm really realyl struggling with is the level 1 drills - four push ups, sprint push ups, jump up, back down and repeat.

I'm an absolute mess after one rep or so.

I struggle with these but more I feel sick when I do the jump in and outs. Wonder if I am taking on too much water at the rest periods.

Also cannot get my brain, arms and legs working together to do the moving push ups, think its because ny the time these come up in the excercise I am a broken man

For some reason my co-ordination in the sliding feet run thing just does not work. Cannot keep opposite arms and legs going irked
