Well after a month of spending half an hour to an hour every night of running about with the dog and 60 calf lifts every other night I can report that:

They don't look any bigger
They are, however, more defined and harder
I can do more with less pain
I can run faster, for longer.

I'll keep it going...
Calves are hard to train because they are used to carrying your weight on a daily basis. You need to go really heavy to get the best results.

as above....your calves are used to working VERY hard all the time. Every step you take your calf lifts your body weight onto your toes.....so by the time you're 30 you've done a zillion calf raises!

the two ways to get big calves easily are 1) genetics (being short helps as well....visually) or 2) sports as a kid. Look at footballers, bouncing about on their calves from the age of 3 means they grow as required.

If you get to adult hood and have not needed them to get big you've got a job to do much about it.....calf raises till you puke and LOTS of food maybe.....but at the end of the day you'll never have legs like the kid that plays football 6 hours a day during his bodies development....especially not at 6ft 5 where you'd need calves like trees to not look "lean" at best!
