Exercise will help but if you eat too much, you will gain unless you spend all day masturbating.
Does this work? Worth a try.Pothole said:

Not doing quite as well as you - 2.7kg in ~3 weeks I'm pretty happy and very smug.

Making do with a belt on my 36" waist stuff, and can button, almost comfortably the 34" stuff. 32" is the goal.

I'm a bit gutted - about 4 months ago we had a bit of a clear-out. Threw out a really nice Boss shirt that I loved because, back when I bought it it was snug. I can now see, just on the horizon, a point where I'd be able to wear it without it looking stupid.

I have jeans that I want to get back into. I reckon it will take about 6-12months. I did put on 3-4stone over a couple of years.Making do with a belt on my 36" waist stuff, and can button, almost comfortably the 34" stuff. 32" is the goal.

Mostly chicken, fish, fillet steak, prawns, squid, eggs, cottage cheese, small amounts of hard cheese, lots of fruit, massive amounts of veg and salad.
A larger proportion of the carbohydrate intake than is ideal, I suppose, is sugar from fruit, though it isn't something I'm at all worried about. Some complex carbs from bananas and muesli.
Energy breakdown for last week looked like this:

Not necessarily, it looks very similar to the eatwell plate, the national standard. Where you can see the protein intake is much smaller than yours. Don't get hung up on fruit either, it's not bad. Great thread, I have just lost 14kg in the last three months using my fitness pal and 3 gym sessions a week. I have had trainer for2of the weekly sessions .I am 48 and 6'2" I am going to buy some new clothes tomorrow as non of mine fit me! Just another 4kg to go to get into the healthy section of BMI, I know it's only a guide but that's the goal I have set myself . Can't wait for the last bit of my belly to disappear , this is the hardest part, but at least I can see the difference in just a few months!

It's preparation for starvation, the body starts to store fat so when the lean times come its ready. Your body just prepares for the worse, which could be a long cold winter. I've done 2 days with no food and not lost anymore than 2 kg, but I wasn't that active. I think I'd have lost more if I had been hunting for food.

Nice!I'm 5kg down and 24.5 BMI after 2 months, the initial target of 7kg (was aiming for 79kg) is looking easily achievable and I'm probably going to aim for 76-77kg. That should put me back to a 32" waist being 34" now down from a tad under 36".
Seeing people post up their successes really helps motivate.
My dentist (who I haven't seen for a year), nearly fell off his chair when I walked in to his surgery last week. When I got back home, I thought I had better weigh myself (as I hadn't for a while). I nearly fell off my chair, I've dropped to 63 and a bit Kg's. holy crap, that gives me a BMI of about 17. I need to start eating a bit more
. I really didn't expect that.

How tall are you?
Interesting thread. I decided I needed to drop some weight after the summer. 6 or 7 weeks ago I was talked into going onto the 5:2 diet. At the same time I've kept up, and then more recently intensified the exercise I do (including on the 2 days). So far I've gone from 88-89kg to 81. Pretty sure there's more to come.
The 5:2 is very easy to follow - very easy. Although I'm using it as a diet, it's really a diet simply in the sense of what you eat. Its purpose (whether you buy into this is a different issue) is to increase lifespan and reduce cancer susceptibility.
A stat I read last night is also worth thinking about. Some Japanese researchers took a group of endurance athletes. Half were told to do 1000 calories more exercise a day (about a five mile run) and eat as normal. The other half were told to exercise as normal and eat 1000 calories less a day.
The first group averaged about 1.6lb weight loss over a week. The second lost an average of 4.6lb over the week. Not all calories are qual, it seems.

I don't have any uploaded photos of the big me. Imagine that but twice the weight, and you'll be fairly close

In march this year I started the gym after 10 years of 0 excercise, I was 17'5 stone and a 38/40" waist and at least XL in most tops.
I am currently weighing in at 13'7 and wearing a 32" waist and medium tops, I am also beging to look as though I may have some muscle and have never felt better. I've been going to the gym at least 5 times a week, I haven't had an alcholic drink in 3 years and haven't smoked for two.
Food wise I've been really strict, no takeaways or fried food, no white carbs, no sugar added (apart from honey) to anything but the mad thing is I have never enjoyed food so much.
If anyone is thinking about trying to lose some weight but can't get going with it, just try. Once you see the first drop on those scales you will feel so good you won't want the feeling to end.
I didn't take any before pictures but I may try to find some suitable pics to post up.
