Report from last week came through the post. Don't like the idea of "waiting list"....I'll see what's what Monday, but he did say when I saw him that it wouldn't be very long...

Yeah you'll be on a waiting list whatever the timeframe before the op actually is.
Which hopefully won't be too long!

Goldblum - I had thought of this with work. That letter has brought it home again, as it were.

My dad got all serious saying I ought to make a will etc etc. They didn't mention death hehe

My heart goes out to you mate. I feel ill just reading that.

My ex was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer over a year ago and it has been a hellish time for the family, especially our kids but I have to give it to her, she came through all the nasty drug treatments, chemo and radio with good humour and hopefully it's behind her now. Considering the character she was before diagnosed it has heartened me that she was able to cope so well. I suppose when the chips are getting low we just push a bit harder.

They do wonders these days and you seem a very stoic young chap and I'm sure that he will take this on and smash it.

All the best fella.
Glad to hear should pulled through, let's hope I can do the same!

As an aside, I've tried about ten times to pronounce the name of the Greek chap who wrote that letter and I'm kind of struggling.

Quite amusing if you've had a couple of glasses of vino! biggrin

As you were.
hehe He said just to call him "Vas" (pronounced Vaz)

Phonetically, I think it's vass-ill-i-oss a-poss-ta-lo-po-loss

Or something like that biggrin I prefer "Vas" hehe

You could not be in better hands than with Grundy.
Have you had any experience with/of him? Judging by his profile it would certainly seem like he's a pretty safe pair of hands!

No, but I was with a consultant neurosurgeon this morning (a very good friend) who could not have been more effusive.

By coincidence I also know one of the regs at Southampton, but obviously haven't talked / discussed this with him. I can't speak for his skills, but I find it difficult to imagine a more committed individual.
Good to know! I must admit, having done a bit of reading of Mr Grundy, I can't say I've come across anything which hasn't been very good.

I just hope everything goes as well as possible, and I can return to what should be normal for me! Sadly, feeling sick and/or bloated practically all the time, having a horribly dry tongue most of time, getting dizzy on lying supine etc have become the norm.

Many thanks

Ross

My latest scan is being discussed at the neurology MDT meeting tomorrow so, sadly, it'll likely be the end of the week at the earliest before I hear anything else frown

I would tell you to hang-in there, but you are dealing with this so incredibly rationally and with such grace it wouldn't be appropriate.

Please could you 'man-down', have a bit of flap or otherwise require some council so us internet lurkers can chip in and feel a bit more useful out here? C'mon!

You're very much in my thoughts Ross, really hope to see you bork free at a barge mooring soon.
Thanks, although I'll admit that this waiting game is beginning to grate a little! Just want to know time scale in surgery now.

Hopefully I'll hear more today. For some reason I have thus gut feeling it'll be something like "now we need to do this test" or "ok, you're on the waiting list, it could be 6 months" or something....

Last time I was discussed in their MDT meeting I heard back on the Thursday afternoon. My uncle had a stroke due to an AVM late last year, it was so a rare case and needed to be discussed by their MDT meetings and he said he always used to hear back on Thursdays.

That is very quick. Do they think you will be up and about by Christmas time?
Up and about....hmmm, yes. Back to normality? Not for st.

They said if everything goes 100% spot on I would begin to feel more normal 6-8 weeks at the minimum. I would be over the moon if I could feel remotely decent by Xmas!!

Thanks everyone smile

I'm not going into work tomorrow, which I think is fair enough! Scary an exciting times ahead.

As you say definitely better to get it sooner rather than later. Plus, this way, there's the potential I may be remotely ok by Xmas and new year.

I'm glad it's soon, I was very bad last night.... Not just the sickness but dizziness.... Was by far the worst I've ever had it. I went to go to bed, I laid down and had to sit back up because I felt like the room was spinning. I've had this before, as you know, but usually this settles quick quickly. Last night, however, it got really, really bad. My head was just spinning and spinning and nothing I could do would help. I started to panic because it was getting worse. It took quite a few mins for it to settle and I had to sleep in a different position with an extra pillow.

I'm hoping I'll be ok tonight but it did really worry me. Such a horrible feeling as some of you are, of course, aware.

So pleased they're not making you wait long, although this will be your longest weekend in history I suspect.

Even if it is 6-8 weeks for you to feel normal a) it's quicker than the 8+ months of the way you have been so far, and b) with any luck you may be able to keep some if your Christmas dinner down x
You say "even if it's 6-8 weeks...." as if that's the worst case scenario; unfortunately that's the world's best scenario before I even can start thinking about being a bit more normal.

Sadly it's been a lot more than 8 months of illness, more 15 now frown

Still, nearly there now. Last full day living with this bd inside of me.

I can't promise he will do it, but I will give my brother my log-in details and ask him to update.... Or also my friend who is also a pistonheads member and ask him to post (bit he's away for a few days but he should be able to get in contact with my parents

Bit nervous now, but bound to be I suppose. Let's hope everything goes to plan!

Just at the hospital now, just had another blood test and an arrow drawn on the back of my neck (though who knows, the nurse could have drawn a cock on there for all I'm aware hehe )

Now it's just a case of waiting! Whilst spending my time browsing pistonheads smile

Hi all

A quick update

I'm struggling a bit with diplopia on both eyes open.... Coughing is better than initially but still not right. Still in intensive care unit and cannot swallow! So frustrating! I can't talk too well either.
