Chaps, a question.

I have lots of muscle. I also have a bit of fat (look great with clothes on, a little wobbly around the middle with them off.

I drink too much at the weekend, which probably doesn't help.

Diet/exercise tips to maintain my current muscle, but lose about half a stone to a stone of fat?

I want my nice body back!
I finished my bulk, and decided I wanted to lose about a stone of fat. I started 3 weeks ago on a low carb diet (circa. 30g a day of indirect carbs) and I've now lost 13lbs in 24 days. It's hard at first but when you see results in the mirror it makes it easier.

Are you keeping your muscle mass? What changes to your training regime have you made - more cardio/intervals? Changes to weight and reps? Help!

Keto isn't the only way to go, I've lost over 1/2 stone in the last 2 1/2 weeks eating carbs with 5x meals per day. I've never fancied low carb, because I enjoy intense training and being weak in the gym depresses me. So Keto isn't the only way to go.

I also don't get headaches, cravings, bad breath and the other side effects of keto.

Carb cycling may work for you, but requires a lot of discipline and planning.

Perve!

No, it is true - I have a very muscular physique (i.e. powerfully built smile ), and am pretty strong. I find it very easy to build muscle - but I also find it easy to put on fat, and have rarely been at the body fat levels necessary to see a six pack etc. I don't think I have the discipline or willingness to get down there - but I would like to get rid of an inch around the waist (sides, rather than belly - that's pretty flat) and bum, which is where I seem to store fat.

Even considered liposuction, as I have never been able to shifgt these, even when in hard training/diet. It's frustrating. I'm pretty fit - cycle to work every day, do Krav Maga and boxing 3 evenings a week, and do 3 strength sessions a week. It's pretty clear I need to up my cardio, and maybe cut back on the weight training (I don't want to spend every lunchtime/morning in the gym, ater all!)?

That sounds a lot like me. I'm quite muscular, have broad shoulders and a large chest. I find it pretty easy to build muscle when I'm committed, but I find it difficult to drop weight. Similar to Flash, my stomach is my problem area. Even when I was doing vast amounts of cardio and eating small, healthy meals, I couldn't really lose weight from my stomach. Apparently it's a common trait in my family.

Thank God I have the physique I do, otherwise I'd look like Buddha. Any tips guys?

Your stomach is just the last place that you lose fat, and the first place where you gain it. Before losing fat from there, you have to lose almost all of the fat from elsewhere on your body. Realistically, you would have to be at <12% body fat before having little fat around the abs. So if you're 6ft tall it's probably a weight of about 12 stone + between 1/2 stone & 1 Stone for every year you've been seriously training.

Why does low carb cause bad breath?

How do you cycle your carbs?

Generally its diet if you are doing massive amounts of cardio and weights. It is as I'm sure you are aware not just about portion size but what you eat and drink. What people drink alcohol, hot drinks with sugar, fizzy drinks etc are one of the biggest things people do without thinking about that can sabotage their results.

Very, very occasionally its a medical condition but that is pretty unlikely.

I'm of the same camp that I can gain muscle relatively easy and also losing fat is harder.

Harry: cut down on the drinks. Doesn't mean cut out. Just have a sparkling water to replace every other pint and see what happens in a month.

If you're serious about losing the hard to shift fat, alcohol must be eliminated. Alcohol in itself is not 'fattening' although it's calorie dense. More importantly, it inhibits fat burning while it's in your system. Drink alcohol and you stop burning fat. Simple as.

LG, would appreciate any info you have on that. Might help someone to go easy on the fuzzy stuff.

Ta! I'll drink to that!

Edit: I've read it carefully now. It's enough to drive you to drink! Fortunately, I rarely drink alcoholic drinks (once a fortnight?) which probably explains why I don't really have major issues keeping the fat off.

He lists his supplements on page 7 or 8.

I wonder what is possible doing everything naturally for the average person without going crazy on the healthy food. (I wonder that but I'm pretty much seeing what is possible although I'm not "average" in the sense that I'm ectomorph.)

And he's a big fat liar.

Sorry but you can't do what he has done without chemical enhancement in that time frame.

It's akin to bodybuilders claiming massive growth from protein powder/food and creatine products when the truth is they are taking huge quantities of steroids, HGH, insulin etc etc.

Sure the end result is superb, it requires massive dedication and sacrifice but its also very dishonest even though I understand their sponsor contracts are required to fund something that often costs several thousand a month before food. Obviously they also can't mention it as it would severely tar the image of their sponsor so when you seem them in magazines/adverts saying they get what they need from X supplement you know its nonsense.

Professional bodybuilding is probably the most unhealthy sport out there.
