Dips? Interesting. Never liked doing them on chairs in case my hands slip and I screw up my back.
exactly - at least this gives you something proper to hold onto. must.stop.fnarr.

Since everyone else is derailing this thread with all this nauseating fawning over a internet picture that is more than likely from a lorry driver called Keith I may aswell join in.

If you post a picture of yourself with a loaf of bread balanced on your head then I might be inclined to believe that the picture is of you, until then and given all the xxx lol xxx I think you are trolling.

Also you look mighty young to be an Audi dealer?

Can we get back to fitness now? and save this sort of crap for the lounge please.
Oi - this is my thread so fkoff if you don't like it! hehe

Left arm and shoulder currently fked again from over-doing the old climbing thing.

Edit: I knew it'd kick off on the other thread but I was late and had to go out so didn't get a chance to warn Nat, so if you're reading this, sorry, Nat.

Yeah, it was always going to be a train wreck of a thread hehe

Had an excellent work out tonight. Squats and yep, you guessed it, pull up's - all types, jumping ones/negatives/kips the lot. This challenge is ON. biggrin

hehe

So how many pull ups can you do now?
At the moment Im not doing "as many as i can", I'm doing single rep sets, interspersed with lots of negatives etc. Apparently its a better way to work up to the number I want. Doubt I could do more than 5 dead-arm ones though. But it's coming. Oh yes, it is.

What's a negative? Jumping? Kips?
kips - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRZKAlDtnrM
negs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Opr72q6NKTc&fea...

Ah, kips looks like you could seriously ruin a shoulder or two!

Negative and jumps - negs I thought you're supposed to control the decent anyway; jumps... useful for climbing practice.

When I have built my fingerboard, I'll have to let you have a go.
Yes, the kips look "interesting" - although it appears to be how most people end up doing pull up's (using assistance from the swinging motion)

Negatives - yeah, couldnt really get a good vid. Hold for 10s at the top, then from top to bottom in 10s. The jump one is good as the bar is about 4" higher than my full stretch, so I have to jump up to get to the bar, i just keep going as in a single movement.

All good fun smile

Very nervous of hanging my heavy 10.5 stone mass off it, though. Doorframe is in good condition. I understand the mechanics. But still!
Great to hear. Get going then! Last one to 20's a gayer biggrin (Oops, what have I done..)

I can probably do that now... (being a climber 'n' all).

I've been doing uneven pull-ups, hanging a loop of rope on one side and pulling up with left fingertips through rope and right fingertips hanging off powerbar then swap sides. Good training for toughening fingers/crimping strength.

I'd love one of these:

hehewink

Oddly, my shoulders are aching. Any ideas why?

Im finding that the squats / deads and pullups are pretty much all I need to focus on (apart from the cardio stuff), to get this thing done.

Have seen an amazing improvement since beginning this early last month. Really enjoying it again now and looking forward to the gym. And all from only 2x 35m sessions per week! Ok, so I do a small bit of running and use the powertrainer at home, but not daily.

The trainer seems keen to impress on me that its more to do with proper technique and power movements, than seeing how many hours a day you can stay at the gym for. Before now, I would simply go and do 3 sets of 10 on whatever I was working on, and chuck in about 3 different exercises per bodypart. Whilst that no doubt helped, I can see now that it wasn't necessarily the best approach for me.

I've worked out a new exercise using the powerbar: climbing sling round bar, lay so body almost horizontal (30 degrees to horizontal), pull up to 45 degrees keeping body straight. It's a whole new set of exercises!
blimey that sounds interesting! im trying to visualise it but I dont think I'm getting it. if youre laying almost horizontal, how do you get up to the bar?

Two slings (or loop of rope) that are about 1.5m long dangle down from the bar. Sit down beneath bar. Hook three fingertips (or a hand) through each loop. Get into a plank position. Pull upwards. It's the nearest thing I can simulate to climbing under a roof.
oh yes, now I see it.

a little similar to this maybe? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtNXo-29d3Q

You can put it back pretty quickly as you don't need to remove the fingerboard.
yeah - its just that she wouldnt go for the "look" whilst it was up. Spose I could keep taking it up and down, but meh.

do those ropes stretch? i wouldnt mind getting some stretchy ropes so that I can get some assistance when i want to do more than i could do without assistance.

nuts

No, they are "static" ropes so suitable for abseiling only. Put a chair under and stand on it "loosely" if you need assistance.
yeah i do that already - just i saw someone on youtube doing it with some elastic-looking-rope-type-things, and I thought hmmm..

training is coming on leaps and bounds at the moment - weights have been going up steadily +5kg per week, dips added +10kg to the belt now. coming up to 3mths and really beginning to feel the benefit smile Onwards and upwards!

(have found that kipping chins are helping me with my strict chins quite a bit)

Bump...

Ok - so how are your resolutions coming along???

I'm loving it. This is my 5th month of the new regime (started in December) and I look forward to every session. Nothing like the buzz of endorphins biggrin

Am at the half way stage with the "proper" pull-ups. With kipping I could do more, but I don't want to go there (unless fit birds are in the gym hehe). Put +30kg on the dip belt a couple of weeks back which I was chuffed with. 120kg on squats/deads. 50kg on military press. So still enjoying the fruits of hard labour!

Have added 1x protein shake and 2 creatine tabs per day. The creatine is Con-Cret - it's Creatine Hydrochloride. It's apparently a break-through (yeah I know..blah blah) but what I like is there's no loading stage. I only started it on Monday and I must say, last nights workout was intense (psychosomatic no doubt...). Still, I will be keeping tabs on how it goes over the next 8wks (i've bought 8wks supply).

But can you do 20? Oh, just re-read what you wrote. Ignore me.

I am using the Powerbar to do 5 x 10 pull-ups, 5 x 10 leg raises and 5 x 10 horizontal rows every day. Also, doing 2 x 30 push ups.

The powerbar is excellent. Have been following the "grease the groove" method on non-training days. Is paying dividends!

Off topic: Was at Craggy Island last Sunday for a rock climbing intro session - was excellent, climbed 4 different walls including 1 overhang. Both me and the Doris have signed up for the beginner course as a result smile

And so the addiction begins! The beginner's course is good. You'll learn about the equipment, roping up, belaying. Shoulda done it straight away instead of the taster session. smile
Didnt know if either of us would like it so 1.5hrs was enough to being with! Was a good laugh though. Although climbing in trainers is a bit hard - specially when trying to get hold on the grey holds. nuts

Right, you crazy cats. Rather than start a new thread, thought I'd resurrect this one.

Anyone bought this yet: http://www.dipsbar.com/

I feel the credit card coming out. Only thing is, to keep it up permanently like my pull up bar, I'll render one room completely useless. hehe
I haven't seen it before but it looks like it does the job. Two chairs together is the cheaper alternative.
