By 'eck, things have changed. In 1971 I was in hospital for a week in bloody agony after the repair.

Laughing was, most definitely, OUT for a long time after that.

I would follow the advice given by Diggers. That sounds just about the right recovery schedule.

The end of day 3.

Sore again today. It's not bad - it just seems like the wounds are pulling tight and bruising is coming out. But I am still quite swollen and I think there is still a fair degree of internal swelling. My whole belly still seems distended from the procedure... and from not having exercised for 6 weeks possibly.

I think the relatively painless day 1 was either the result of the continued effects of the anaesthetic or my body's natural chemicals looking after me.

I am trying not to take too many painkillers so that I can gauge what my body is telling me. Today it was mostly telling me, "listen to the PH lads, take it easy".

Today is 7 days since surgery.

I am pain free most of the time, though I get the occasional twinge between my hip and groin. I also get some incision soreness periodically.

I am still quite bruised below my navel and some places further down where I'd prefer never to see bruises!

I am also still weirdly inflated abdominally from the gas they used. It seems to come and go. One minute I look back to normal and then after I eat or if I walk any distance I blow up again and my wounds become sore. Does anyone know how long that takes to resolve?

Exercise-wise I have been out for a walk every morning and the last 2 mornings I did about 3 miles. It doesn't hurt but as I mentioned above I find that my belly becomes swollen and tight by the end.

I had very little bruising and no inflated abdomen either so can't advise unfortunately.

Same as Craig. I had no bruising at all and no bloating either.

Probably best to get back in touch with the surgeon, if only for some reassurance.

Are you sure you just haven't put a bit of pud on? Can you do the truffle shuffle?

Oi, I'd still need to put on a couple of stone to catch up with you.
