I'm in so much pain. I winced it away yesterday, mucked about on PH, had a few drinks and went to sleep.
I don't take painkillers unless I'm bleeding out my eyes. I've just taken some. My ankle. Twisted it yesterday. 1.5 foot drop. Sock swelled up underfoot badly.
I can point without help. Can point my toes this way and that, up and down, left and right. Or I could, yesterday. I'm sure it's not broken. But f
k me I can't even breathe today. If I even move my leg the weight of my foot causes tears.
I don't even know why I'm posting, thank god I don't need a dump, I cant move chaps, I'm in so so so much pain. Waiting for killers to kick in. Cold has set in, I'm shaking like a baby, so much pain, I can't move it.
Sense of humour abandoned for the time being. Yesterday was painful. I could hobble. Today I can't put any weight on it. If I get up ill be crawling.
Sorry mod heads, this is nothing more than a whine. It's 5am, I can't move, I'm scared of hospitals and terrified ill need to see someone.
It's about 15 mins since I took paracetamol, it feels better already. Was too sore to move under the covers before, ankle is now under the covers.
Repeat the above. Better after a few paracetamol. By the looks of it I whine like a b
h when in pain, it's just so sore I can't move.
Oow. Rant rave whine complain. It's just so sore. Whinge whinge etc ... I won't be getting up in the morning. Sooo painful. I would rather have an enema with a live cobra than lie here like this. The god damn pain, I'm such a wuss.
Edited because I can't spell wuss. Wuss folks, wuss. That's what I am right now.
This should be moved to the dying heroes forum. It really is that painful. I've just gone downstairs on my bum, to get paracetamol for later, having finished the ones in my drawer, crawled back upstairs on my knees and forgot the f
king paracetamol. Now debating whether to try again. The paracetamol feels like its ten towns away, on foot.

Sounds sprained to me.
Cold compress and painkillers, keeping it raised a bit may help.
If not better in 24 hours get thee to hospital, you'll need ex-rays to check for breaks.
It's been a while since painkillers. Couldn't move leg without them, they have definitely kicked in now. I can point my foot today in any direction, this says to me it's not broken. But Jesus wept, it's painful. I'm hoping its a case of me just not having sprained it properly in 15 years, and forgetting what a sprain actually feels like.Cold compress and painkillers, keeping it raised a bit may help.

Can't even lift leg without foot feeling like its being sawed off.
New respect for paracetamol, too. 1000mg later, the pain is halved. It's not such a s
tty drug suitable for babies etc, it is working fantastically.Basically then, if I can point my foot around, it's not broken. Yes?
Try getting some co-codamol, if you can, much stronger than paracetamol. You can only get it at a pharmacy though, and I think 15 mg is the strongest you can get without a prescription. Also, get some ibruprofen too and alternate between taking the two types every 2 hours (still a 4 hour gap between each type), that way you're getting a constant dose of painkillers and not letting one wear off after nearly 4 hours.
I hate painkillers too, but codeine works a treat when in extreme pain.

IANAD etc but sounds like you might have damaged some ligaments. Very painful and you might need a crutch for a week or two. Plus some physio exercises once you can walk on it.
If ligaments, you have my sympathies - it hurts, like I b
h.
(And expect this to get moved to Health Matters when the mods rise from their slumber

I would think some form of anti inflammatory would be better?
I used to have some high dosage diclofenac after my accident- they are the way forward.

king around with me, Voltarol. Pink pills, always tiny iirc. I must admit, I really don't like pills. The paracetamols have helped enormously. I did what turbonator suggested with a hideous ear infection, when the pain is inside your head like a cannon going off constantly.
Feel MUCH better with the paracetamol, I can get up and hop where i want to go. Before I couldn't. Waking up has sorted it. I couldn't breathe earlier. Haven't experienced this much pain since my 20s, I'm fine now. Obviously in pain but with a whole new world of respect for paracetamol, which I've always regarded as a girly drug for when your split ends are sore.
100% definitely not broken. I'm still in yesterday's clothes, happy to remain that way till the pain eases off. I can't even touch my ankle and would rather not pull it through jeans.

I sympathise, having spent most of yesterday afternoon/last night's shift hobbling round on an inexplicably very sore/stiff Achilles' tendon.
Hope it gets better, but SEEK HELP!
No no. I want to hobble like you! I have a doctor phobia. I don't like them. Like those folk who hate painted clowns or clapping monkeys from a Stephen king novel.Hope it gets better, but SEEK HELP!
I'd rather just hang out here for a Dayan bed and see how it goes. MBH will hopefully be my great great great grandfather comforting figure till I'm back on my feet.

Stop trying to be some kind of hero and get it checked out. PH couldn't take the server load if you end up bed ridden because of a lasting problem you didn't get addressed early.
It is so, so very much better after 2 paracetamol. I've done the same checks a doctor would do. I'm confident it's not broken. I really don't like doctors, but I would reluctantly see one if I thought my ankle had cracked.Stop trying to be some kind of hero and get it checked out. I'd be stupid, otherwise. I'm not going as I'm sure I'm ok. Paracetamol is virtually imaginary, but it's worked enough that I'm satisfied I'm ok. Appreciate the help, though, thanks.

king around with me, Voltarol. Pink pills, always tiny iirc. Otherwise, continue with the paracetamol. Ice. Elevation. Rest.

Given the mechanism of injury you've mentioned above, I'd nip down to A&E for an X ray. I've seen very innocuous injuries that have resulted in fractures. Mobsta said:

I've done all sorts to my ankles, mainly due to various mountain biking disciplines. In fact, I had a few days off work a couple of weeks ago, as I couldn't walk due to pulling ligaments. However even though I was unable to put weight on the foot for a couple of days, it wasn't painful enough for painkillers. Personally, from my experience, it sounds as though you may have broken it.
Get it checked out. It really isn't as bad as you think. You'll have to wait around a bit, have an X-ray, wait a bit more, and then perhaps have it set in a cast. No pain, no needles, nothing! It's better to go through that than have the bone set awkwardly and you end up with a limp or any complications later on in life.
So ... err ... man up!

I doubt it's broken. I had a motorcycle crash in 2007 - I managed to hobble around that day in the hospital etc. The next day I could not put any weight on it, move it, touch it, anything. It was just very badly sprained. Sprains are just torn/stretches ligaments depending on the severity and will hurt just as much as a break.

This! Also, the doctor can give you painkillers that make paracetamol seem like nothing
